A Tasmanian inquiry has confirmed what we've been saying in our clear the hospital logjam campaign. Our hospitals need funding to increase capacity and improve performance, address exit block and expand measures to keep people out of hospital. hospitallogjam.com.au

I had a little cry watching the news tonight. Thousands of people marching through their towns in solidarity all over the country against the people who would seek to divide us. As someone who arrived in the UK as a child refugee it means everything to see this allyship.

“I have never seen a mass casualty event like today [13 July] Every corner in the hospital was busy. Every space was occupied by the injured or bodies of the dead” says Dr Mohammed Abu Mughaiseeb, MSF deputy medical coordinator, working in Nasser hospital, Khan Younis, south Gaza

In Nov. 2023, intense shelling in #Gaza prevented thousands of Palestinians from safely leaving Al-Shifa Hospital. In April 2024, the MSF team restarted the clinic. The team never stopped treating patients during what they describe as the most difficult days of their lives.

We are outraged and strongly condemn the killing of our colleague, Fadi Al-Wadiya, in an attack this morning in Gaza City. The attack killed Fadi, along with 5 other people including 3 children, while he was cycling to work, near the MSF clinic where he was providing care.

It was a long road for @acemonline to arrive at this statement, but I am grateful and proud that our college (with CENA, NZNO and CENNZ) is the first college to speak meaningfully on Gaza. Silence is a political act, and this is our lane. #NotATarget acem.org.au/News/June-2024/E…

🔴UPDATE: Israel’s offensive in Rafah has forced the closure of an MSF primary care centre in Al-Mawasi. This is the second health facility we have been forced to close this week and another step in Israel’s systematic dismantling of Gaza’s health system. Since February, we have treated over 33,000 patients at the health center. Earlier this week, the Tal Al Sultan stabilization point had to be evacuated due to extreme violence. Medical access in Rafah is now extremely limited and humanitarian access to north Gaza remains blocked. MSF has been forced to leave 14 medical facilities in Gaza since October. More than a million people have been forced to flee the Rafah offensive. As long as this offensive and the larger war continues, medical services and essential aid will diminish, and more civilians will die. #CeasefireNow

UPDATE from the West Bank, Palestine: Raids by Israeli forces in Jenin have left at least 8 people dead, including an MoH surgeon from MSF-supported Khalil Suleiman Hospital, Dr. Osayd Jabarin. He was shot on his way to work. The raids are still underway and have also left 20 people injured. Despite reports online, MSF did not and has never received prior notification about raids, nor their duration. MSF teams working in the West Bank have witnessed repeated instances where access to healthcare has been hindered during raids by Israeli forces as well as the targeting of ambulances and medical staff and acts of violence and killing in Khalil Suleiman hospital. We are alarmed by this incursion, and the possibility of more injuries and deaths. We urge Israeli forces not to harm or hinder healthcare staff, and to ensure they can access both injured patients and medical facilities.

What an honour to be in solidarity with these legends. We need all the voices right now to speak from a place of moral courage. Now is not the time to be silent.

There is still time to register for this wanel on tomorrow night online and in Sydney. If you want to learn from @Turtle1doc and others, and hear Dr Thurtle’s talk about the work of @MSF in #Gaza that was cancelled by @acemonline this is your chance! Thrilled to be moderating this session.
It's hard to see the light, but today it is bright. We just finished the panel pre-meeting for this. I think this (wanel) is going to be incredible, and a step forward for the discourse. Join us if you can - 16th May 7pm. eventbrite.com/e/every-storm…
