An AI Overview now appears on about 43% of US searches. A year ago it was 15%. Pew found clicks drop from 15% to 8% when a summary appears — and that was measured when the surface was a third the size. The click isn't coming back. The mention still works.

Every AI visibility tool sends prompts with no history. New research: the final prompt in a real conversation carries a median 36% of what the user actually said. Half the time a stated constraint (budget, location, a ruled-out competitor) never appears in it.
