"Sati" is the traditional Hindu practice of burning women alive once their husbands die. It is often referred to as "ascending the pyre (sometimes translated as pile)." The current Hindu government teaches Hindus to deny that this practice exists or claim that it only emerged after Muslim rule in India. But this is false as it is attested in countless Hindu scriptural texts - many of which clearly predate the period of Muslim rule. Brihaspati Smriti 24.11 ”A wife is considered half the body (of her husband), equally sharing the result of his good or wicked deeds; whether she ascends the pile after him, or chooses to survive him leading a virtuous life, she promotes the welfare of her husband.” sacred-texts.com/hin/sbe33/s… Vishnu Smriti 25.14 ”After the death of her husband, to preserve her chastity, or to ascend the pile after him.” Daksha Samhita 4.19 ”A woman, who, after the demise of her husband, ascends the funeral pyre, becomes of good conduct and lives gloriously in the celestial region.” Agni Purana 222.19-23 ”The woman (widow) who enters the (funeral) fire along with the (dead) husband would also reach heaven.” In 1829, the British passed laws to prevent Hindus from burning widows, especially because such women were frequently forced to perform the sati ritual against their will. Nevertheless, Hindus have continued legitimating the practice and burning women. A recent famous case of Sati was that of Roopkuvarba Kanwar (1969-1987). She was a Rajput woman forced to immolate herself in Rajasthan, India. At the time, she was 18 years old and had been married for eight months to Maal Singh Shekhawat, who had died a day earlier at age 24, and had no children. Kanwar was burnt alive on the funeral pyre of her husband. Several thousand people attended. After her death, Roop Kanwar was hailed as a sati mata – a sati mother, or pure mother. The death quickly produced a public outcry across various parts of the country.

Extremist Hindus constantly lie about Islam and Hinduism. It is the basis of their entire identity. But they can only do this in a sealed echo chamber filled with other Hindus.
