A humpback whale goes four months without food and crosses an ocean on the fat it banked in Alaska. A camel goes a month without food and carries you across a desert while doing it. Not one of them is light-headed. Not one of them has lost its muscle. Not one of them had a flapjack to keep the blood sugar up. Every one of them runs on the same thing: fat, kept on the body, turned into fuel when the food stops, and a brain that switches to ketones the moment the stores run down.
