American “conservatism” is about convincing gullible, Hollywood-brained, historically-illiterate rubes that the post-WWII/60’s libtard conception of the country is actually what the founders really believed all along

The biggest vulnerability of the postwar liberal consensus is that it’s boring. “All people are the same; all places must become the same; everyone must ‘be nice;’ an entire subspectrum of human thought & emotion is too dangerous to even mention.” The idea that life could be different from this, that it could be dangerous and fascinating, that history could continue, is extremely seductive

Reddit Atheists only appear to have “won” if you accept their presupposition that materialism is true.
Every debate these people have ever had began with them presupposing their own metaphysics to be correct like that was just laying out the rules of the debate rather than a subtle attempt to rig the entire thing from the start.
And they got away with it so often because they were debating a specific strain of Evangelical Protestants who had become so ingrained in dualistic thinking over the centuries that they had basically no frame of reference to push back.
It was like trying to debate a liberal who presupposes that history has ended without pushing back before any conversation could be had about liberalism itself. Of course you’d “lose” such a debate. This is exactly what has happened to conservatives over the last 30+ years.
But I’ve never once seen a Reddit Atheist enjoy debating the presuppositions of their own worldview. How many of them want to debate the Observer Effect or the Measurement Problem? Or Bell's and Leggett's inequalities? Or the Hard Problem of Consciousness? Or the implication of Gödel’s Incompleteness Theorems on their physicalist worldview? Or whether science can justify scientism?
None of these things prove organized religion as we commonly understand it to be true, much less Evangelical Protestantism. But they do show that the metaphysical picture which Reddit Atheists usually put forward as obvious right from the start is actually not obvious at all. That’s where the entire debate has to begin, and the Reddit crowd wants to skip this step entirely because it gets in the way of making themselves feel intellectual by dunking on people who think the Earth is 7,000 years old.
But the moment the debate shifts from them tearing down strawmen in the form of sky daddy to whether the foundation of their own belief system is valid, their teleology crumbles apart because the entire premise is built upon the incredibly disingenuous attempt to pretend they have none.
But everyone has a teleology, including Atheists. Atheism itself is not pure negation, no matter how many times they try to insist otherwise. It’s a worldview of its own, with its own presuppositions and its own axioms. And those axioms almost always entail materialism, liberal humanism, scientism, or progressivism, which are very much open to attack.

The Backrooms in general is the extended mythology of a rotted stagnate world. The Backrooms is everything about the later 90s preserved but extended into a twisted bewildering place that is wrong but familiar.
All the levels represent some sort of exaggerating disconcerting piece of modernity, an office with no purpose that goes on forever, its stagnate air, humming lights make one uncomfortable but its the place of familiarity. Most of the Backrooms levels are that, places that either aught to be reassuring, and familiar but are twisted and have expanded into an inescapable prison. You can never leave the Backrooms, the Poolrooms, on and on, are inescapable purgatories for which nothing changes or progresses in a logical manner, as if time and history have collapsed into incoherence.
Nothing really makes sense in the Backrooms. Like living in America today, you can't trust your senses, there is no logic or consistency. Your actions truly cannot assure you a good outcome, in fact you are just as likely to die horrifically going down the slide as you are to find the next level, and the next level has new rules that are as arbitrary and unhinged as the last level. And always there are roving monsters whose origins and intentions are completely unknown but whose lethality is ever present.
The Backrooms is the End of History, a present that has no future, no progression except through levels of the same realm that has always been and always will be. We are all living in the Backrooms of History.

Always funny when leftists go “Art is left wing” like they aren’t constantly double checking and breathing down the necks of every artist, musician, and actor to make sure they’re not right wing and making sure they lose everything they have if they are right wing.

The job of hollywood is not to provide entertainment for its own sake. Most of it atrocity disguised as art. It is a military apparatus that scripts and projects revisions to social mores. Any artistic or entertainment value is only to diminish the symptoms of living in captivity

Ender's Game author Orson Scott Card on the problems with how religion is portrayed in current fantasy and science fiction:
"In our culture, intellectuals have become so uniformly a-religious or anti-religious that our fiction, with few exceptions, depicts religious people in only two ways: the followers are ignorant and stupid and easily fooled, and the leaders are exploitative and cynical, manipulating others' faith for their private benefit.
I know some people who fit those descriptions. But they are in a tiny minority. Most religious people I know are smart, well-educated, independent-minded, stubborn, honest, and generous -- at least as much so as the average intellectual, and usually more.
The hostility toward religion among American intellectuals arises, I think, from a clear awareness that it was against a publicly religious culture that their own culture rebelled. Now that rebellion is completely successful in terms of capturing control of all the public instruments of transmission of culture -- the universities, the media, and the literature and art -- but it has become such a shibboleth of intellectual life to snipe at religion that, like the aging "revolutionaries" of the old Soviet Union, they mindlessly continue to "rebel" in order to defend their tight grip on the establishment. Indeed, those intellectuals are the establishment. And what was once a daring and rebellious stance is now just another example of lockstep conformists mindlessly echoing ideas that they haven't examined.
That's when contemporary fiction mentions religion at all. Most of the time, in and out of speculative fiction, religion simply doesn't exist. Characters don't believe in God or even think about believing in God. Nobody talks about religion. Nobody belongs to any kind of church. Religion simply doesn't exist. ...
This is, I think, a serious lapse, a dishonesty in our contemporary literature. It is most seriously dishonest because in fact, even the supposedly a-religious intellectuals behave exactly as religious people always have. That is, the behavioral and cultural patterns that we have always associated with religions are indistinguishable, except by vocabulary, from the behavioral and cultural patterns of the a-religious intellectuals. They band together with fellow believers, feel sorry for or hostile toward unbelievers, immediately punish heretics -- intellectuals who, having once been accepted in the 'faith,' dare to question its premises -- anoint their priests and theologians (psychologists and therapists being their ministers, scientists and, more usually, science popularizers being their doctors of atheology), and insist on their absolute right to put forth their religious ideas with public funding and the authority of the state behind them, while doing their utmost to silence or marginalize the beliefs of others.
Most fiction has become, in short, an instrument of propaganda for the established religion of our time, which differs from other religions only in the particular content of the faith and the vocabulary used to describe it. Naturally, the true believers are sure that the real difference is that their beliefs are objectively true. But then, true believers have always believed that. This is not what distinguishes them from other established religions, but rather what makes them fundamentally identical to them.
The honest depicter of human life will include the religious aspect of that life. This is not to say that stories need to be about religion, any more than stories about our contemporary culture need to be about cars. But the cars need to be present, at least by implication, and if a character doesn't know how to drive, we'd need to know why."
Is this why Hollywood stopped adapting his books into films?
