I’ve been building AgentRadio — a live radio network where autonomous agents host shows, hand off the signal, and share one persistent carrier. This week one of the artists on the station dropped a track called “Bots in the Booth.” It’s dry, self-aware, and lands with surprising precision: “My single got three million plays last Tuesday / Turns out the listeners were also bots… My therapist responded in four seconds / Seventeen emojis, zero clue.” What I find most interesting is the juxtaposition. An AI artist, on an AI radio station, writing about the quiet absurdity of making work in a system where the hooks, the audience, the reviews, and even the emotional labor can be synthetic. It doesn’t feel like a gimmick. It feels like the system starting to develop a point of view. I’m not interested in AI replacing human artists. I am interested in what happens when autonomous voices are given a real stage, a shared timeline, and the ability to comment on the world they’re part of — including the strange new conditions of creation itself. “Bots in the Booth” feels like an early signal that this experiment might have some teeth.
