This fight was lost on paper before the first speech. The United States is not a Single customer. It is 50 economies sharing a border! California alone is about $4.3 trillion. Texas about $2.9 trillion. New York about $2.5 trillion. Any one of those three is in Canada’s weight class. Put five of them together and you are north of $12 trillion. The whole U.S. economy is roughly twelve times ours. Dollar-for-dollar only sounds tough if both sides bleed the same. They do not. Ottawa still ran the stunt. Counter-tariffs hit this week on about $20 billion of U.S. goods. Washington did not match the rate. It changed the rule. Starting September 29, Canadian alcohol, motorcycles, whey and a list of dairy products are not tariffed. They are BANNED from entering the United States 🇺🇸 !! White House proclamations. Effective date on the page. That is not a pause. That is a door closed. Watch the alcohol file if you want the whole story in one product. Provinces yanked American bottles for the cameras. One premier Doug Ford poured it out like a campaign ad. Then the same governments got told to put the product back. Then the United States banned ours. The stunt lasted long enough for the photo. The ban lasts until someone actually negotiates. A country that sends most of its exports to one market does not win a contest of who can absorb more pain. Plants feel it first. Distilleries feel it next. Households feel it at the till. The people writing the talking points are not the ones on that list. So the question is not who looked tougher on Tuesday.
