When the gunshots rang out 11 years ago today in East Harlem, our @NYPDPSA5 brother, P.O. Randolph Holder, didn’t hesitate. He ran toward the danger, confronted the evil and was fatally shot during the exchange of gunfire. Officer Holder’s heroic actions that day attest to his immense courage and his abundant love for his fellow New Yorkers. His ultimate sacrifice is never forgotten. #FidelisAdMortem

Belle was so sure that pitch was on purpose that he wanted the mound instead of first base. Same season he hit 50 homers and 50 doubles in a 144 game strike year, still the only 50 and 50 season in history. Nobody was more feared, at the plate or otherwise.

BREAKING: The number of restaurants in New York dropped ~2,000 YoY in Q1 2026, posting its largest YoY decline in at least 36 years. This surpasses even the worst contraction recorded in any quarter during the 2020 pandemic. The number of eating and drinking places in New York State has now declined YoY for 4 consecutive quarters, its longest streak since 2021. This comes as restaurants are facing surging operating expenses, including insurance premiums, wages, interest rates, utilities, and health coverage, with overall costs rising faster than national averages. Last year, employee health insurance costs jumped +12.9% for New York-area service firms, business insurance rose +7.0%, while utility costs surged +8.5%, according to the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce. Skyrocketing costs are crushing New York restaurants.

On this day in 1988, P.O. Christopher Hoban was fatally shot during an undercover drug buy. Just three hours later, @NYPD34Pct P.O. Michael Buczek was fatally shot while pursuing a drug dealer. These two hero officers, forever linked by sacrifice, are never forgotten. #FidelisAdMortem

At a candidate forum this morning, @JessicaReinmann was caught sending the questions and my answers to Cait’s team. Putting aside the fact that Cait needs advance notice of the questions and how to answer them, despite the host saying neither candidate had them in advance, my question for @CaitforNewYork is do you agree with Jessica on her preference of MAGA over DSA? I’m sure everyone at the synagogue holding this morning’s forum wants to know. @TimmyFacciola_

Insights into the life of Oscar Belgal, who became Zohran Mamdani's favorite illegal alien criminal after he was shot by ICE agents in the Bronx on October 8. ──────────────── Belgal hailed from a poor urban neighborhood in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic. In an interview there last week, his grandmother, Juana de León, said she had raised Mr. Belgal, as well as other grandchildren, because his mother was absent. Belgal left the Dominican Republic and made it to Colombia by October 2022, according to Carlos Martínez, a Dominican man he befriended there. Together, they travelled through Darién Gap in Panama until reaching Mexico. “We slept together, we ate together, we did everything together,” Mr. Martínez, 25, said in an interview. Belgal told acquaintances that he crossed the U.S.-Mexico border in late 2022 without being apprehended. He soon "found refuge" [as the Times describes it] in Washington Heights. In December 2023, police officers arrested Belgal because two months before, according to prosecutors, he and another man had robbed two people Oscar Belgal knew: Mr. Martínez [same as above] and his wife, Yesica Torres. The couple told the officers that they had gone clubbing in the Bronx on Oct. 2, 2023, with Belgal and the other man, whom they did not know. While they were all sitting inside a car, Belgal’s accomplice pointed a gun from the driver’s seat at the couple, who were seated in the back, and demanded they hand over their jewelry, prosecutors said. Belgal, seated in the passenger’s seat, took their chains and rings, and about $1,100 in cash, before kicking them out of the car, according to prosecutors. Belgal faced 18 criminal charges, but his lawyer negotiated a deal with prosecutors. Belgal pleaded guilty to just one charge: grand larceny in the fourth degree, a nonviolent felony. He received five years of probation. Mr. Martínez and Ms. Torres, who said they were scarred by Mr. Belgal’s betrayal, said they fled to the Dominican Republic after his arrest because they felt intimidated by him. “We put him in jail, and he stayed in touch with us,” Ms. Torres, 35, said in a phone interview last week from the Dominican Republic, describing how Mr. Belgal had accused them of “snitching” on him. “He threatened us.” From January to June 2025, Belgal sold plastic bags of cocaine to an undercover officer during multiple exchanges near his building on Wadsworth Avenue, and on at least one occasion, a bag that also had fentanyl and heroin, prosecutors said in a criminal complaint. Belgal was arrested in August 2025 and charged with 10 counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance. He pleaded not guilty to all counts; the case has not been resolved. nytimes.com/2026/10/18/nyreg…

HOW NEW YORK POLITICIANS COMPROMISE YOUR SAFETY AND THEN EXPECT OTHERS TO FIX THEIR MESS Oscar Belgal, the convicted foreign national felon, was supposed to be on court on 10/28 for one of his two open felony cases and then again on 12/2. His apprehension could have happened at the courts on either of these dates. But "Brad Hoylman-Sigal" authored the bill prohibiting ICE from making apprehensions in New York courts, predictably leading to these arrests in uncontrolled settings where there is greater danger to the detainee, the general public, and members of law enforcement. Now in response, he is openly threatening private business owners. He should answer to the public for the foreseeable tradeoff his policies created instead of passing the buck.
Yesterday, I convened the Manhattan Borough Board to pass a resolution demanding ICE release Oscar Belgal and cease its operations in NYC. We also put private commercial property owners on notice: We will not stand idly by while ICE utilizes private facilities to enact its reign of terror over our borough. pix11.com/news/manhattan-boa…

There's a famous photograph from the Inchon landing on September 15, 1950. A Marine officer is climbing a ladder over a seawall, rifle in hand, leading his men into the city. That Marine is 1st Lt. Baldomero Lopez. Within minutes of that picture being taken, he was dead. Lopez was from Tampa, Florida. He'd enlisted in World War II, then went on to the Naval Academy. At Inchon, he led a platoon of Company A, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines onto Red Beach. Once over the wall, his platoon was hit by North Korean bunkers firing from close range. Lopez moved forward to knock one out with a grenade. He pulled the pin. As he raised his arm to throw, he was shot in the chest and shoulder. The grenade fell from his hand, right beside his men. His wounded arm wouldn't work. He couldn't pick it up to throw it. So he pulled the live grenade in under his body and took the blast himself. The men around him lived. Baldomero Lopez was 25. He received the Medal of Honor posthumously. The photo of him going over the seawall became one of the most iconic images of the Korean War.

🚨Retiring Congressman Jerry Nadler will return home to New York under indictment for insurance fraud. 🔗 t.me/+w2RPvwHALKlhNmE0 Nadler, who gained sympathy from his constituents when his Long Island home burned down on Christmas Eve in 2017, now stands accused of defrauding Allstate for more than $2 million. "Congressman Nadler filed claims for several works of art, watches, and other high-value items that he still possesses," said Long Island District Attorney Malcom Reynolds. "Being a retired congressman doesn't make him above the law. Reynolds says the grand jury is convening next week and should return several felony indictments by late December. "His homecoming won't exactly be welcoming." Follow @mcafeenew for more drops.
