We couldn't have summed this up better 💡
CFOs and Procurement has to work hand in hand, and has to trust each other for the team to work. The most common reason for Procurement to go with a vendor is because “we’ve used them for the last 20 years”. Yes that may be true. But a lot has changed in 20 years - there could be newer, more efficient vendors who can provide the same standards at lower price, lower delivery cycle time, better payment terms etc. But we have to be careful. If Finance is overzealous on only the cost $ of product, it could be more expensive in the long run if you compromise of standards and reliability.

If you are running a business, you need to optimize your cost structure. Commerce Costs: product, shipping, packaging. Software Costs: marketing, commissions, tech subscriptions. They eat into your gross margin easily so it's best to keep an eye on these monthly/quarterly.

Across boardrooms today, bottom-line efficiency is prioritized over top-line growth...and #software is a MAJOR line item ripe for cutting costs and extending runway. 👇
The environment for saas is as hard as probably ever. CFOs are continually sifting through every single line item asking “can we consolidate? Do we really need this? If we must buy it, how deep a discount can we get?” The companies that make it through will get really strong.
