I was in Grade 7 and well aware of the Viet Nam War as a Buffalo Evening News carrier. Our local hero, Lance Cpl Patrick Dearborn, made the ultimate sacrifice. His poignant audio message to his mother and sisters expresses love and patriotism. 🇺🇸 👍 🇨🇦 Semper Fi 🫡 🙏
I’ve been a Fan Club member for several years. The dues don’t even cover the postage to mail these quarterly Journals to me in Canada. The staff does a marvellous job with their intensive research and informative articles on the superb comedy team, their costars and sets.
Never a shortage of interesting biographical information and cheesecake within the pages of the Three Stooges fan club Journal. Also “future” intersections like “the bearded lady”, quite acceptable these days as “normal”. There’s George Tobias, later Mr. Kravitz on Bewitched…
Ahh, those days of the outdoor rinks, when the municipal firemen would flood a community field and everyone gets a free skate. So there I was, in about 1961, looking like I have to go pee… 😁
More re. Eddie Shack. Of note (an answer to a trivia question), only he and Cowboy Bill Flett had the distinction of scoring Hat Tricks for both the Maple Leafs and the LA Kings.
Then I happened to meet the incomparable Eddie Shack, as he reffed a charity event in Fort Erie, where a local police team played a squad of former NHLers like Marc Napier. Fun evening. Sadly, the great “track clearer” has now moved on.
I experienced two special and memorable events in 2003. The first was meeting former Leafs and Rangers forward Mark Osborne, who gave his Christian testimony at Wainfleet BIC Church. My son and others thoroughly enjoyed it.
In the summer of 1977 I was part of a 5-man pump (Wajax IV) crew working forest fire suppression out of White River Ontario. In those days, 75% of🔥were from lightning. These excessive fires in NW Ontario spark certain memories, and point to current forest mismanagement.
The diving equipment catalogs were the rage when I was starting out. Voit, U.S.Divers, Healthways, Dacor, etc., all colourful and intriguing in their presentation. Here’s one with Sean Connery (James Bond, 007) in Thunderball.
May 10, 1970. Bobby Orr’s iconic OT Stanley Cup winner. Not only the best or at least in the Top 3 to ever lace them up, Bobby remains the most consistently fine a Canadian and person you’d ever have the privilege to know. Blessings and longevity, Sir Robert!!
What I grew up with, and we were familiar with all the players. Now it’s a challenge to think of all the NHL teams…
