Euless Trinity head basketball coach Mark Villines believes toughness isn’t something that develops on game day. It’s built through the daily demands of practice, where players are challenged to compete, embrace physicality and push through adversity.
For Villines, creating a competitive environment means putting his players in situations that test their toughness. With plenty of full-court action, limited whistles and an expectation to play through contact, every practice becomes an opportunity to establish the Trojans’ hard-nosed identity.
“We’ve always felt like if we were going to be a little bit behind from a skill set standpoint, we better be tougher on the floor.”
Rather than relying heavily on individual skill work, Villines prioritizes competitive situations that force his players to respond under pressure. His goal is to develop a Trinity squad that doesn’t back down from physical challenges and understands what it takes to compete when the game gets difficult.

Euless Trinity head basketball coach Mark Villines has spent more than two decades establishing a culture built on toughness, grit and physical basketball. As another season approaches, that identity remains at the center of everything the Trojans do.
For Villines, success starts with being the team nobody looks forward to facing. He wants his players to embrace the physical side of the game, compete on every possession and make opponents earn everything they get.
“We want the opponent when they play us to walk off going, man, that was tough.”
That reputation isn’t something Villines takes lightly. It’s a standard he continues to instill in each new group of players, ensuring that the toughness Trinity basketball has become known for carries into the next generation of Trojans.

Hard work is the entry fee. Most people stop there. Competing is choosing to give everything you have in that moment, regardless of the scoreboard, the circumstances, or the opposition.

"There are somebody jobs, & there are everybody jobs. Everybody has to play with effort and energy. Young players get hung up on whether they are scoring points or not. The way you get on the court is with effort & energy."
