"The practice and prudence of Public Legal Theology presupposes—and requires—knowing about more than 'legal doctrines.' The Public Legal Theology enterprise must be situated in real reality, including humanity and culture. One way to do this well involves reading deeply and broadly. Recently in a past year, I read—and I mean read, not heard—about 50 books. Some were thick dense legal texts comprised of thousands of pages containing judicial ramblings. Others were “mind candy” providing sheer entertainment. Others provided worldview formation and theological rigor. —Professor Jeffery Ventrella This month's featured article from the Center for Public Legal Theology offers a glimpse at some of the books that recently impacted Professor Ventrella. At our recent lunch with the Dean, students had the opportunity to share a meal with President and Dean, Eric Halvorson. Dean Halvorson answered student's questions and discussed the importance of finding balance, sticking it out when it gets tough, and remembering to stop and pray throughout the day." #trinitylawschool

"The mission of Trinity Law school focuses on 'forming virtuous attorneys in the Christian legal tradition for the common good and love of neighbor.' This mission means far more than simply producing technically competent lawyers. What sort of advocates and counselors are truly needed for this technical and AI-boosted environment? Does practicing law consist simply of executing “means/end” “get-it-done” techniques? Can a good lawyer be satisfied by being competent yet soulless? Can such a lawyer adequately and fully represent his client as he ought?"—Dr. Jeffery Ventrella Professor Jeffery Ventrella published a new book today titled "School's Back!: Educating to Transform People and Glorify God." In it, he breaks down the mission of Trinity Law School and why a Christian view of education is required to form not only technically great but virtuous attorneys. "The liberty comprehended by the Founders is best understood in the context of these words of John Adams, spoken in October of 1798 to the military: 'We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion... Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.'" —Professor Neil Rodgers On this day, 239 years ago, 39 delegates from the United States of America met in Philadelphia to sign the Constitution—a document that would establish a new form of government and forever change the way the world views the rule of law. Led by President George Washington, the Framers of the Constitution instituted a supreme law that separated and limited the powers of government in order to protect the liberties we cherish to this day. They sought not only to address the challenges of the time but to create a document that would sustain this young nation into an unknown future. #trinitylawschool #constitutionday #constitution

"Our culture and our politics fixates about providing options, choices, and "having it your way." Yes, humans possess moral agency, however, endless choices can be enslaving and the question should be what is freedom for? Choice for choice sake is actually a bad idea—ideas have consequences and bad ideas have victims: Hell's National Anthem." —Professor Jeffery Ventrella This month's featured article from the Center for Public Legal Theology shows how good goods make bad gods. "Because human beings are endowed with reason by definition, truth is accessible, that is, commonly accessible, to all of us... So we ought to take care not to play fast and loose with language, down to pronouns and categories, for all this is about nothing less than truth and reality." In the recently published article, “Common Sense Wins the Day in West Virginia v. B. P. J.,” in Public Discourse, Professor Adeline Allen discusses the 2026 decision that defines the limits of participation in youth sports based on biological sex. "Well, it’s election season. The midterms are upon us: tragic passing of a Senator and a scandalous departure of another candidate—pass the popcorn! The 24/7 news cycle continues to be cluttered with reports, rumors, and rhetoric—all of which is largely poisonously partisan and unedifying. Yet, for the faithful Christian, pietism and indifference—cultural withdrawal—do not reflect a mature Christian approach to the public square—a venue that the Lord desires the faithful to engage—to actually intercede—“when truth stumbles” in the public legal realm..." —Jeffery J. Ventrella Politics and elections are important, yet they are not ultimate—you wouldn't know that from the 24/7 news cycle and near hysteria generated by the midterm elections. We see claims and counterclaims—scandals and more scandals—Does theology, instead of "political science," help us navigate and make sense of these things? Consider this timely CPLT offering—part 1—in a series addressing and answering these deeper questions. Trinity Law School was honored to host Israeli-American attorney, author, and Fellow with the Georgetown University Center for the Constitution in Washington D.C., Yonatan Green. Green gave a lecture on his recently published book Rogue Justice on the Israeli legal system, in which he recounts the Court's ascent from a modest judicial institution to the central arbiter of Israel's political and social disputes. Revealing how judicial supremacy came to dominate Israeli governance, and discussed how Israel's constitutional crisis sits within broader global debates of pressing concern for scholars, practitioners and policymakers alike. After his lecture, Green was joined by Professor Andrew DeLoach, Director of the Center for Human Rights at Trinity Law School, for a conversation and audience questions.
