Ribo-Seq has unearthed thousands of fascinating cases of translation complexity over the last decade. Through the exploration of Ribo-Seq datasets it became clear that a more accurate representation is required to help us better understand this complexity. #Translation #RiboSeq

Yesterday there was my PhD Viva. It was more like a deep discussion about the work that was done and the field, many questions out of curiosity rather then tests, and I didn't feel like it's an actual exam. I also learned from it a lot. Passed with minor corrections.

Current stipends for PhD researchers in Ireland just aren't enough. Ireland is ranked LAST GLOBALLY in terms of PhD Stipend to cost of living ratio, scoring 0.58. Meaning the current ANNUAL PhD stipend covers living costs for less than 7 months. @DeptofFHed #PGRsDeserveBetter

In cancer, so many - here’s our example in #prostatecancer showing that mRNA-protein correlations at the proteome level get worse when disease progresses. Translational control is so much more important in also cancer than currently given credit for. nature.com/articles/s41467-0…

In this work, manual annotation of thousands (!!) of uORFs was performed with the help of GWIPs-viz and Trips-viz resources. This could be a very useful resource for training different models for ORF prediction
We have published an article: "Annotation of uORFs in the OMIM genes allows to reveal pathogenic variants in 5′UTRs". We performed a manual annotation of upstream translation initiation sites in human disease-associated genes and revealed ∼4.7 thousand of TISs related to uORFs.

My visit in EMBL-EBI, HAVANA-GENCODE gene annotation team is sadly finished. Great and very important science is being done there! Here I'm delivering a Ribo-seq interpreting workshop and it is the 2nd part where gene annotators are presenting genes as a part of gene contest
