Last weekend was all about hardware wallets and self-custody at BTCHEL.
I gave a keynote on Hardware Wallets 101 in Finnish, covering the basics, then joined a panel on “What’s actually stopping you from holding your own keys?” that went much deeper into self-custody.
Thanks to everyone who came by, asked questions, challenged the ideas, and stuck around for the discussions.
And thanks to the BTCHEL crew for putting it all together. Had an absolute blast.

. @tsusanka admits people don't secure their Bitcoin because the risk feels abstract until something happens
"People inherently don't want to see the risks, or that's just not in their nature to be worried about them until something happens. If you cross a street, you look around whether there is a car, you learn to do that. But securing your bitcoin or crypto is so abstract that people tend to just leave it for later"
"I will buy the @trezor hardware wallet next month, or I will set up new passwords everywhere next week or something like that"
"It's this asymmetric risk, that the probability is maybe not that high, but the impact is huge. And by nature people are not very good at that"

Stake your TRX straight from the device that started the whole self-custody category - no bridge, no custody trade-off, just a live reward on TRX you already hold.

This week, I'm releasing a 1 and a half hour conversation with @tsusanka - the CTO of @trezor.
Thomas has spent years building the hardware that protects other people's fortunes, and he thinks the industry has the self-custody story backwards - it's not too complicated, people are just wired to ignore risks until something breaks.
We dig into why smart, capable people - including friends of mine who built and sold companies for tens of millions - still get scammed, and what it would actually take to fix that.
We talk about:
- Why humans can understand the risk of crossing a street but not the risk of losing digital assets
- Why the claim that self-custody is only realistic for 1% of people is wrong
- How the Trezor Safe 7's five layers of security work - three chips, a PIN, and a passphrase
- Why "security at the cost of usability comes at the cost of security" drives every product decision at Trezor
- What split he actually recommends between self-custody and ETFs
- Why inheritance remains the hardest unsolved problem in self-custody
- Whether a quantum computer capable of breaking Bitcoin exists within the next decade
And much more...
Podcast out this week!

And yes the “plug and play” vibes are real. Real devices. Real experience. Learning by doing.
This is how crypto education should be.
