The outrage some Muslims, particularly some women, direct at polygamy is seldom about justice or the protection of rights. It is more often rooted in personal pain and the belief that another woman should not enter a marriage where one has already “suffered”. That position is emotional, not principled. It treats the second wife as someone who is harvesting where she did not sow, rather than as a woman entering a relationship that Islam expressly permits.
What makes this position even weaker is the nature of the attack itself. A woman who simply indicates interest in a man is subjected to relentless insults and character assassination. This happens even when the man in question has openly shown love, care, and generosity toward his existing wife through gifts and public affection. Instead of that conduct being recognised as evidence of a man who values his household, it is twisted into a reason to destroy the woman who has expressed interest. The outrage is incessant, personal, and disproportionate. It is especially shameful when it comes from Muslims, who are expected to distinguish between what the Shariah allows and what personal resentment demands.
There is a further inconsistency that is difficult to ignore. Many of those most vocal against polygamy do not actually reject the institution itself. Their real objection is often to polygamy practised by men of limited means. At the same time, some are dating married men or maintaining boyfriend-girlfriend relationships outside marriage, while still presenting themselves as moral critics of those who choose to formalise their unions lawfully.
Those who should be speaking on this subject are the ones who themselves remain within the lines. You cannot step outside the limits of Shariah in your own relationships and then claim the authority to condemn a woman for seeking a lawful marriage.
That is double standard and hypocrisy!

Ilorin police arrested and harassed me in 2023. 💔💔💔 It wasn’t my first time experiencing something like this, but this particular incident was traumatic. Till today, anytime I remember what happened, I still feel that fear all over again.
My then-girlfriend was sick, and around 10pm, she called me to come to her house and take her to a clinic or pharmacy to get medication.
On our way back, I met some police officers at Asa Dam, in front of Dangote, around the Kwara State House of Assembly.
They stopped me, and I parked. They asked their usual questions: From where to where?
I answered them, and one of the officers said they needed to search my car.
I came down and opened the trunk for them to check. After searching the car, the officer asked my girlfriend to come down because they needed to search her too. I explained that she was sick, but he said they didn’t care.

Police harrassed my mum and my brother inside their own car in ilorin, it wasn’t even funny. Spent almost the entire day calling people because I don’t live close. I don’t even want to start with my own experience. It got so bad, they said they’ve transferred the police officer from ilorin. They’re so terrible at doing their actual job, but harassment? Call them anytime of the day!!!
Ilorin police are useless mehn

what is this new trend of invalidating people’s firsthand experiences with Ilorin policemen’s consistent harassment and brutality? I have personal experiences with them, and they almost always cower the moment they sense you have contact with a higher authority that can put them in check.
my best friend, who neither does yahoo yahoo nor any fraud related activities, has been bailed many times simply for driving his mum’s Lexus within Ilorin.
now it beats any reasonable logic to defend that brutality and harassment because some of you diabolically inept and ignorant morons have no real life experiences of such. I piss on all of you who think nothing of such is rampant in Ilorin. I like the way people are speaking up and anyone who thinks those people are lying is a fool.

Coming from a police officer, I'm irritated.
There's always been police brutality in Ilorin and Kwara at large and we've always been complaining. Your colleagues are thieves and 'extortionists'
My friends and I were delayed cos my hair was tinted. Searching others and got to me only to find out my job and went on to say, "Ẹyin lẹ n ba journalist jẹ̀ẹ́." What is his business with how I choose to look?
There was another time I was entering Ilorin and was stopped around NASFAT, those guys were shown my ID card because I was genuinely in a rush and they delayed me, saying they're going to hsbe to search my phone, laptop and my car because how's a journalist able to afford the car I was driving (Camry 2010 o).
I had to call the former PPRO who had to apologize to me and asked them not to find trouble with ne because I love trouble.
When they saw that we truly had known each other, they changed tone. These same guys were telling me to call the commissioner and no one was going to let me from their grasp.
Dokt defend your people. Allow people call the nonsense they are doing out. Don't invalidate rheir feelings sbd stereotype them that they are fraudsters.
Its not today people give police money just because they don't want to be delayed. Its not all those offering money that hage something illegal going on. Your people are a menace.

Tertiary institutions are starting to resume in Kwara state and the most excited people are not the students coming back to school but the Police who have been waiting for months to have them back in town to harass and extort them. It’s not up to a week and it’s already happening. @Kwarapolice_CRU @followKWSG @Kwara_PoliceNG kindly note students won’t stand by and watch the norm happen again this new session so caution the appropriate authorities while everyone is still calm.
