Russia's city of Sochi under massive Ukrainian attack at this hour.
And Russians thought genociding Ukraine would serve to deflect from the daily misery of life in Russia.

Ukraine is kicking ass at the front, just liberated abother 200 km².
“Russians are simply despicable”
That’s how Zelenskyy described the despicable attempts by Russians to disrupt the start of the school year in Ukraine.
“Even among any enemies, there is an understanding that children are children,” the Ukrainian president said.
In the Kyiv region, he visited a reconstructed school that was destroyed by the occupiers in 2022.
The first day of the school year in Ukraine began with horrific casualties and destruction. Overnight, dozens of civilians were killed or injured in a massive attack on Kyiv and other Ukrainian regions.

President Zelenskyy:
The Russian sky is becoming entirely unsafe. Ukraine does not threaten civil aviation as such, nor any civilian aircraft. However, there will be drones in the sky over Russia, and this must be taken into account.

Russia is escalating attacks on Ukrainian civilians.
July and August were the deadliest months since the war started.
But Ukrainians are standing strong. We must stand with them.
That’s why air defence is our top priority.
Some countries have interceptors that will soon expire. Those could be sent to Ukraine to help protect Ukrainian lives.

Grok: No. The tweet is wrong on sequence, who was in charge, and what the laws actually did. It is a compressed propaganda version of 2014, not a chronology.
1. “Poroshenko declared Russian a banned language”
False.
• Petro Poroshenko was elected 25 May 2014 and sworn in on 7 June 2014. He was not president when the winter crisis, Crimea, or the start of Donbas fighting happened.
• On 23 February 2014 — the day after Yanukovych fled — parliament voted to repeal the 2012 Kivalov–Kolesnichenko law that had given Russian (and other languages) regional-language status where speakers were over 10%. Acting President Oleksandr Turchynov refused to sign the repeal. The 2012 law stayed in force until the Constitutional Court struck it down in 2018.
• Russian was never banned. Ukrainian has been the sole state language since independence. Russian remained widely used in daily life, media, and much of the east and south. Poroshenko’s 2019 language law (signed as he left office) required Ukrainian in official and some public spheres; it did not outlaw speaking Russian.
The repeal vote was a political gift to Moscow’s narrative. It was not a ban and it was not Poroshenko’s act.
2. “Turned Donbas into a war zone by bombing ethnic Russians to dust”
Wrong order and one-sided.
• Armed conflict in Donbas began in April 2014 when a unit led by Russian citizen Igor Girkin (Strelkov), coming from occupied Crimea, seized Sloviansk and other towns (12 April). Girkin later said he “pulled the trigger” and that without his group it would have fizzled like Kharkiv or Odesa.
• Kyiv announced an anti-terrorist operation after those seizures. Heavy fighting followed. Both sides killed civilians; Ukrainian artillery and aviation caused civilian deaths, as did separatist and Russian fire. “Bombing ethnic Russians to dust” as the origin of the war reverses cause and effect: the war started with armed takeovers, then the Ukrainian response.
• Donbas is mixed. Many residents are Russian-speaking Ukrainians; “ethnic Russians” as a single target population is the Kremlin frame, not a clean demographic fact.
3. “Cut off water and electricity to the people of Crimea”
Partly true on water, after annexation, and not how the war started.
• Russia seized Crimea in February–March 2014. Ukraine then reduced and, by April–May 2014, stopped Dnipro water through the North Crimean Canal (which had supplied ~85% of Crimea’s freshwater, mostly for irrigation). Kyiv treated Crimea as occupied territory and would not keep subsidizing it without a deal. That caused a real water crisis, especially for agriculture.
• Electricity: there were later disruptions, including a 2015 blockade and pylon attacks by Ukrainian activists. That is not how 2014 began.
What actually started in 2014
November 2013–February 2014: Euromaidan, Yanukovych flees.
February–March 2014: Russian forces take Crimea.
April 2014: armed groups, including Girkin’s, seize Donbas towns; Ukraine responds militarily.
Language panic and the canal cutoff were used as justifications. They were not the opening moves, and Poroshenko was not the official who set them in motion.

Mainstream Russian propagandists now say Ukraine's strikes have reversed the trend of the war, with the amount that Russians are looting from Ukraine not enough to cover the amount that Ukraine is destroying inside Russia.
On Solovyev's channel, the country's two most popular military bloggers lament that the destruction of Russia's Wildberries warehouses cost $12 billion, while they can only loot $10 billion from Ukraine's town of Sloviansk.

Russia's agricultural crisis continues to deepen, with an emergency inter-regional meeting of farmers, grain merchants, banks and government officials in southern Russia attempting to calm rising anger, as farmers are unable to sell grain, pay salaries or bank loans.
A soon to be bankrupted farmer begs government officials to declare force majuer, pointing out that only a small portion of Russia's total grain output can be exported due to Ukraine's blockade of both the Azov and Black Seas.

An Australian volunteer known as 'Mozzie' has been confirmed killed in Ukraine.
Mozzie served first with the Royal Australian Regiment. He later volunteered for the International Legion for the Defense of Ukraine, working as an infantryman and combat medic with Med Team Alpha under the GUR, Ukraine’s Main Directorate of Intelligence. In an interview with the International Legion in June, he put his reason simply: he was tired of training and wanted to use the skills he had actually been taught for.
This is an excerpt from a tribute his closest brother in arms wrote after he was gone: “Mozzie was the bravest soldier I have ever known, and he was my brother. As a combat medic he pulled countless people back from the edge, and he also took out multiple enemies. I was there for most of what he did in this war. After everything we had already been through, very few still wanted to keep fighting. Mozzie did.
One example: after the enemy opened fire first and killed his team leader and his best friend, Mozzie dropped four of them. What followed was two against six. He still won. Then he kept his team leader alive as long as he could until a vehicle got there to take him out."
Rest easy, Mozzie.

For now, unfortunately, all the intel – both ours and our partners’ – and all the signals from Russia indicate that the Russian leader personally wants more war. Even now, when the absolute majority of his own society would agree to stop the war along the line of contact.

It is my birthday!
And it's a sad one because it's my 5th in a full-scale war. A small jubilee nobody wants. Yet I don't lose hope, because every day takes us closer to victory.
I am thankful to the defenders making it possible for me to celebrate this birthday at home in Kharkiv. The best gift I could ask for is help in ending this war. If you would like to congratulate me, please donate to any Ukrainian charity of your choice.
