Super stoked to share this paper, now in its final form @Environmicrobi !! Thanks to the reviewers who helped us improve our story that began with a totally epic time-series of post-fire soil samples and ends with a dynamic and pyrophilous subcommunity!

Not ideal that I'm losing my voice the day I needed to give my talk at #MSAfungi23! But the Fungi and Fire session this morning was awesome! 🍄🍄🔥🔥@sydneyglassman @MonikaSFischer

Massive CONGRATS to newly minted Dr. @NeemJPatel !!! 🎉🎉🎉 Absolutely phenomenal Phinishing Talk. My heart is bursting 🥹. It’s been such and honor and a privilege to be her postdoc mentor and partner in science! Watch out, cause she’s on fire!!🔥 @TraxLab @PMB_Berkeley – at Berkeley, CA

Having a data/file organizing day and realized I never finished my annual tradition of updating this plot of CA wildfires (total acres burned +highlighting specific named fires that burned >100,000acres). 2022 was a phenomenally moist year, with nary a fire >100K!🔥

Student-focused one-day microbiology conference at UC Berkeley next month!!! Open to all! Registration is FREE! ....as a former chair of this event, I'm totally biased in saying this is one of the most awesome micro events ever. Come hang, share your work, met new micro-pals!
We're now about two months(!) out from @UCBerkeley Micro Student Symposium 🥳 Registration closes on March 15th, so make sure to sign up soon (free registration) at docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F…

Diversity of genomic adaptations to the post-fire environment in Pezizales fungi points to crosstalk between charcoal tolerance and sexual development @MycoCosm; @MonikaSFischer; @TraxLab; @BHenrissat

ALT Early and late pyrophilous colonizers. The brown–green bar shows the underlying lifestyle of these species in a mix of saprotrophic and ectomycorrhizal fungi. Similarly, the black–grey bar shows a gradient of pyrophily (i.e. fungi that are present in the early stages of post-fire soil colonization), and pyrotolerance (i.e. fungi that colonize the soil months after fire events).

So many rad female fire scientists at #ISME18 !! Fantastic 🔥 pitch from @NeemJPatel, who burned a couple forests using prescribed fire and then followed the soil microbial communities for 18months afterward. Go visit her at poster # 536 to learn how the microbes responded! 🍄🦠
