I've been out surveying the streets by bike to update the 2theAlps Christmas Lights map, our most extensive yet! To avoid the crowds, I've also highlighted the quieter streets here 2thealps.com/london-christma… May interest @MaryleboneVllge @Londonist @visitlondon @TimeOutLondon
Just alerting @BespokeEB to a free study visit and seminar about the A27 Polegate to Glynde cycle route taking place this Friday (20th June) afternoon. If this is relevant to your activities and you'd like to join us, please shout. Thanks.
New plans to add much needed ped crossing to Merantun Way/Morden Rd junction. But southbound lane will become 'ahead&left' which can be a massive hazard for ahead cycle traffic (risk of being struck by left-turners moving at the same time) Any thoughts @CyclingMerton @psimonk?
Of possible interest to mountain people e.g. @theiaincameron & train people e.g. @christianwolmar I’ve helped produce a new rail map of the Alps (The Alps – Skiing by Train). Includes Brussels to Venice sleeper train (launched today!). More details here. skiflightfree.org/the-alps-s…
A great thing about following posts in French is not only learning new French words but sometimes also handy new English ones.
'Cyclogarable' apparently means cycle-parkable!
There's only 1 word for what I saw at Wimbledon station today - Lime-ageddon! Dockless e-bikes are great but need better way to address problems e.g. how to alert Lime to scenes like this? Fallen e-bikes + also blocking regular bikes parked on the racks.

Here's an unusual bus stop bypass layout on the south coast. There's a give-way marking on the cycle track. Not sure if give way to peds crossing or to oncoming bikes (to denote shuttle running) but probably slows things down a little either way. @RobertWeetman @livingstreets
Amsterdam station's amazing underwater bike park which took 4 years to build, time-lapsed into 60 seconds below. If there was a list of the world's 10 most impressive cycling schemes, this would surely feature. Time for an @appgcw study visit?
Interesting slight variation on UK bus-stop bypass layout in Paris. Rumble strips alert you to crossing ahead & the message 'priorite pietons' clarifies peds have priority. Doubt this makes a huge difference but probably helps a little. Of possible interest to @RobertWeetman
Cracking and original quote here from @LCyclable (with default X translation). Bravo!
"A successful city is one where a child on a 50 euro bicycle can move around with the same ease as an adult in a 50,000 euro car."
Une ville réussie est une ville où un enfant sur un vélo de 50 euros peut se déplacer avec la même facilité qu’un adulte dans une voiture de 50.000 euros.

Interesting update on e-scooters in Paris. X translation = "Paris may say no to self-service scooters but they continue to flourish, even in the suburbs. Reasons given: easy to park, no sweat, easy to transport by train. A clear signal that the bicycle system is not yet ready."
Paris a beau dire non aux trottinettes en libre service, elles continuent de fleurir, même en banlieue. Les raisons évoquées: facile à garer, pas de transpiration, facile à transporter en train. Un signal clair que le système vélo n’est pas encore au point. #trottinette
Here's the translation for the Tweet below - "Very nice photo by @EmmanuelSPV which shatters some prejudices: it shows that a cycle path is used to facilitate the transit of goods and people in wheelchairs."
Très belle photo de @EmmanuelSPV qui fait éclater quelques préjugés: elle montre qu’une piste cyclable sert à faciliter le transit de marchandises et de personnes en fauteuil.

I’ve been seeing quite a few of these on the streets of Merton recently. Am intrigued. Wonder if @GroupMerton or @CyclingMerton know of any local companies/ organisations that use them? Would love to hear more about them - costs, performance etc (and ideally have a go on one!).
London’s garden squares are beautiful historic places but can feel like no-go areas for active travel. Carriageways often resemble race tracks, terrifying to cycle along, difficult to cross on foot. Wondering if @LondonCycling or @laura_laker have ever campaigned/written about?
The world’s busiest cycling junction (I think!) in Utrecht on a wet Monday morning in June. Big thanks to Margot (@Cycling_Embassy) for the guided tour. Cycling here is so advantageous that, altho rain probably dampens (sorry!) demand a little, the flows remain staggeringly high.
The new-ish Danish style stepped cycle tracks between South Wimbledon and Colliers Wood are a big improvement on the previous layout, but the entry point at the Colliers Wood end is often blocked by parked buses. Wondering if @CyclingMerton was aware?
