So before calling for a #ban on #AI, which is not enforceable and just #wishful #thinking, how about really implementing #accountability at the #institutional level?
Nope because now everyone is looking at "big bad AI".
AI can't hurt anyone until some highly paid executives and board members decide to push it to us - users - for dubious applications :(
Making THESE decision makers REALLY accountable is the only way to mitigate the harm done.
When @FrancesHaugen made it undeniable that FB was knowingly and purposefully fucking-up kids' mental health - what were the consequences for FB? A tiny slap on the wrist, answered by some empty promises to do better.
Has this happened? Does anyone care anymore?
Shocking indeed.
BUT...I think it is important not to fall into the AI==reckless or AI==evil trap.
AI is not the root of the problem here. It is just ONE of the many elements of it.

Yet everyone is expecting governmental institutions to #regulate #AI and make it #fair and #accountable. Seriously?
When #citizens fail to achieve what society and its #institutions expect from them (paying #taxes on time), they are held #accountable and penalized by said institutions. So why isn't this reciprocated?
