Listening to Krysta Walter and Tiffany Kaiser talk about immunosuppressant nonadherence in transplant and new tools being used to help solve this issue #WTC2025 #organtransplant
Got my badge and updated it so there’s no confusion about why I’m here.
If you want to see #WTC2025 through the eyes of a 2 time heart transplant patient of over 32 years, follow me!

I’m headed to SF for the #WorldTransplantCongress this weekend! Are you? Let’s meet! 2x heart transplant recipient who makes graphic medicine and MedEd comics for adults, founder of a Young Adult transplant support group. Want to collab on a comic together?

Sometimes just meaning well doesn’t land the way we intend. @tragicdarling is back to help us reflect and stay thoughtful:
〰️
Some classic phrases you hear when you’ve got a transplant that are not always the most helpful.
When you take the time to really think about it, what are they saying? Transplant life is a mystery to most, but I love shedding light on some of the things we hear fairly often that leave us scratching our heads.
Celebrating Donate Life Month by showing you what runs through my head when I hear these. 💚💙

“Thing about yourself as cartographers. You’re a mapping the object and using angles to determine distance” drawing advice from @inksplattery #GraphMed2024
Found out #graphicmedicine existed during the pandemic and used comics as a way to leave a record of my life when I was dying. Now I’m in Ireland at #GraphMed meeting people I’ve only known through a computer screen or kept their books in my library
Thrilled to kick off #GradMed2024 in Ireland. The conference hasn’t even started and I’ve already met incredible people, heard the coolest ideas for comics from scientists, and found collaborators for disability comics. That’s only two hours into Day 1
Starting off the week with a workshop led by @TheBadDr in a room filled with people working in healthcare who love comics. Reminder that people like that exist all over the world and are using comics in fun ways within medicine #GraphMed2024
Prepping for #graphmed2024 to start here in Ireland. Dreaming of all the books and comics I’ll get to bring back with me. Anyone have suggestions for favorite new books/comics to check out? #graphicmedicine #comics
Ready to head to Dublin for the first time and meet some medical comic people from all over the world! Anyone else going to get there tomorrow? #GraphMed2024 @GraphicMedicine
“I teach it [comics] because that’s what it is. Don’t be apologetic for it” “no justification needed” @JeremyDauber in a panel with @klg19 @AubreyGabelCU at @Columbia_SPS #graphicnovel #comics – at Manhattan, NY
Anyone else going to the @NYPCUCVI Heart Transplant Summit on Friday? I’ll be there ready to talk comics and medicine! – at Manhattan, NY
Listen to my pt 2 interview about getting a 2nd transplant. Life ticking away, accepting major illness & consequences due to the immunosuppressants in order to get an organ, & then not feeling worthy of a 2nd heart bc I stopped taking my meds as a teen tinyurl.com/3vbv67n5 – at Manhattan, NY
Can’t wait for this! Looking forward to the discussion I’ll be moderating with all of these incredible people – at Bronx, NY

TO THOSE WHO STILL WANT TO AVOID COVID:
We’re in a one-way masking world now. Therefore, it’s time to upgrade your respirators. Cloth and surgical masks (and even some KN95s and N95) simply won’t suffice.
Here’s a 🧵 on some of the best masks you can get:
The dating scene didn’t happen at bars in Oakland. It happened in the produce section of the Berkeley Bowl – at Manhattan, NY
I’m at a loss for words at this decision. The efforts we take as #immunocompromised or #disabled people when it comes to trying to live life at our “normal” baseline of wellness aren’t just ignored anymore. They’re crumpled up and trampled on – at Bronx, NY
Just bought this at @KinokuniyaUSA and excited to read a #manga with a major character with a disability. It’s not something we get to see often & has been popping up more often in newer titles. Especially romances & shoujo. Would love to see it normalized in side characters too – at Bronx, NY
The heartwarming tale of Josee has returned once again in a beautiful manga adaptation. Prepare the tissues as you read what happens when two worlds literally collide 🤧
