What would you have them do? If, as we're told, you can't blame City players/fans, then why shouldn't they harness and lean in to avalanche of negativity for motivation? It's not odd, it's human, and classic sports mentality/behavior. Us vs. the world. You know this...I think.

Manchester City’s fight to overturn their guilty verdict in the Premier League’s financial investigation has taken a dramatic new turn, with details emerging of the evidence the club believes could clear its name.
On Friday 16 October 2026, The Telegraph published fresh details of City’s appeal strategy, including testimony from 24 witnesses and financial records that the club argues were wrongly dismissed by the original commission.
City were found guilty of serious financial breaches relating to the period between 2009 and 2018. The club maintains its innocence and is appealing the decision.
WHAT HAS BEEN REVEALED?
According to The Telegraph, City’s appeal will centre on:
* 24 witnesses, whose evidence City believes was wrongly dismissed.
* Bank statements and money transfers that the club says support its explanation of the sponsorship funding.
* Emails and letters relating to the disputed commercial arrangements.
* Abu Dhabi government documents concerning the source of sponsorship payments.
* Receipts and other financial records supporting City’s account of the transactions.
* Alleged fundamental errors in how the independent commission assessed the evidence.
The dispute centres on hundreds of millions of pounds in sponsorship revenue. The commission concluded that more than £830 million had been improperly attributed to commercial sponsors rather than the club’s ownership.
City insist the commission misunderstood the funding arrangements.
WHAT HAVE CITY SAID?
In their official appeal statement on 2 October, Manchester City declared:
🗣️ “The Club is innocent of the accusations made by the Premier League.”
The club also said the commission’s opinion contained:
🗣️ “clear material errors, of law, principle and fact”
City chief executive Ferran Soriano previously rejected the central allegation that Sheikh Mansour’s money had secretly been channelled through sponsors.
🗣️ “This is just not true.”
The independent commission rejected City’s explanation in its original ruling, meaning the appeal will now determine whether the findings should stand, be overturned or be reconsidered.
WHY DOES IT MATTER?
Manchester City could still face major sanctions, potentially including points deductions or expulsion from the Premier League.
But City believe the evidence behind their appeal could undermine the verdict that has shaken English football.
Importantly, the documents have not all been released publicly. Today’s revelation concerns reporting on the evidence and City’s legal arguments, not proof that their appeal has succeeded.
Can Manchester City overturn their guilty verdict?

🚨⚪🔵Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed On Manchester City’s Financial Breach Allegations:‼️
🗣️ Sheikh Mansour: “Manchester City will not be bullied into accepting a narrative simply because it is convenient for our critics. If there are financial regulations, we will face them through the proper legal process. But let me be clear: allegations are not convictions, headlines are not judgments, and accusations repeated a thousand times do not automatically become facts.”
🗣️“For years, people questioned how Manchester City could rise so quickly. They questioned our investment, our ambition, our ownership and our success. Now, whenever City wins, some people immediately look for an explanation that exists outside football.”
🗣️“If the authorities believe we have broken the rules, then present the evidence and allow the independent process to reach its conclusion. We will defend ourselves vigorously. We will not apologize for investing in the club, building infrastructure, developing players and creating an institution capable of competing at the highest level.”
🗣️“I also find it strange when people celebrate the idea of destroying a club because they dislike its success. Manchester City is not simply an owner writing cheques. It is thousands of employees, supporters, coaches, academy players and communities whose lives are connected to this football club.”
🗣️“We respect football’s rules, but we also expect those rules to be applied consistently. If the standards are the same for everyone, then let everyone be judged by the same standards. If the rules are unclear, they should be clarified. If they are broken, consequences should follow the evidence not public pressure.”
🗣️“Manchester City did not come this far to become silent because our success makes others uncomfortable. We will cooperate with the process, defend our position and continue building the club.”
🗣️“And if, at the end of this process, the evidence proves wrongdoing, then we will deal with the consequences. But until that day, nobody should confuse an allegation with a verdict.”
🗣️“Manchester City will defend its name.”
SHEIKH MANSOUR ADDED:🔰🔥
🗣️“They call it a breach; we call it disrupting their old boys' club. The traditional elite spent decades pulling up the ladder once they reached the top, and they cry foul the moment someone else builds a better one. Let them investigate, rewrite their rules mid-game, and hold their hearings history won't remember the committees or the bureaucrats, it will remember who completely redefined modern football. Our ambition was never meant to fit inside their boardroom frameworks.”
