Deeply disappointed by new US tariffs on NZ exports. This move hurts our exporters + undermines the global trade system. NZIBF will engage closely with govt as we respond. #trade #nzexports #NZIBF

Good news for 🇳🇿exporters! The dairy dispute with Canada under CPTPP is resolved — a win for trade rules and smaller countries. Big thanks to Hon @toddmcclaymp, his predecessor & MFAT. New market access = meaningful gains for our dairy sector. tradeworks.org.nz/new-zealan…
Pesky non-tariff barriers impose major costs on New Zealand's most competitive export sectors, including in digital! See here our submission on the idea of open plurilateral on NTBs. Good luck @MFATNZ tradeworks.org.nz/submission…
Our long-serving ED @StephenJacobi is to retire from the role on 30 June. We are sad to see him go!

Thanks to @BrightstarNZ for the opportunity (once again!) to address today’s One Stop update for the Accountant in Business. Spoiler alert: it’s not good out there! Remarks will be posted later on @TradeWorksNZ
We welcome this progress, especially the dialogues with #EU and #ASEAN and urge #CPTPP members to pick up the pace with accessions to ensure the Agreement remains at the cutting edge of trade liberalisation at a difficult time.
CPTPP (Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership) Ministers and representatives met today for talks on further boosting trade between members. Australia is proud to be CPTPP Chair in 2025 and leading this work program. #DFAT #FTAs #CPTPP ➡️dfat.gov.au/trade-and-invest…

Pleased to see this work underway - all strength to these hard-working officials! A comprehensive, high quality agreement will be of value to both sides and an important signal to the rest of the world. @TradeWorksNZ
India and New Zealand commenced the first round of in-person negotiations for a comprehensive and mutually beneficial Free Trade Agreement (FTA) today in New Delhi. This follows the formal launch of the FTA process on 16th March, followed by a series of virtual meetings that laid the groundwork.
The negotiations mark a significant step toward strengthening bilateral trade and deepening economic ties between the two nations.

Interesting perspective below. Hard choices to be made when it comes to securing key interests. Would we do differently? But the bigger picture is a further weakening of the global trade system. UK can balance this by supporting deepening and expanding #CPTPP @TradeWorksNZ
Our ED @StephenJacobi recently addressed the Local Government NZ Rural and Provincial Forum on the impact of US tariffs on local government. Read his remarks here:

NZIBF welcomes the entry into force of the Upgraded ASEAN-Australia-NZ FTA and congratulates the governments and officials concerned. This is a strong signal of commitment to free and open trade at a critical moment. beehive.govt.nz/release/upgr…
NZIBF's submission on the India/NZ FTA strongly supports the initiative, announced by PMs Modi and Luxon in March. Looking forward to an agreement that is "balanced, ambitious, comprehensive and mutually beneficial"! tradeworks.org.nz/submission…
