Thinking about buying a bond ETF like $TLT, $EDV, $ZROZ or $TMF? Look at our cheat sheet first.
When interest rates go up, these funds go down. The question is how much.
Simple rule: rates up 1%, $TLT drops about 16%.
$EDV and $ZROZ swing even harder, around 25% for the same 1% move.
$TMF is 3x leveraged and resets every day, so over weeks and months it won't track a clean 3x. Choppy markets eat into it.

You could also try to hedge with $VIX, but options are not as cheap as they look as they track VX futures.
Keep the SPX hedge as the core. The June 6970/4600 put spread with the 8525 call sold (zero cost) or the 8905 call sold (0.74% of notional). It pays on where SPX finishes, regardless of how volatility behaves on the way.
Add a VIX call-spread ladder for crash speed, budgeted at 0.5–1% of notional:
January 20/40 spreads: the most liquid expiry, closest to spot, and cheapest at 1.96.
The current 7-day implied move for $SPX is just the range over the last 6 weeks. 7511 - 7827
The people who say gamma levels don't matter are the people who don't use good gamma levels.
SPX high of the day was 7719.01, which was 0.03 off the GEX flip line we mapped out.
