It's not nearly as exciting as saving 63% on your power bill, but TRY has been having a say on energy policy. Look out for the parliamentary committee report in October. totallyrenewableyack.org.au/…

Lots of info in this thread about the jobs created by renewable energy. We need this in our regional/rural areas and all over Australia - it's a once in a century shot in the arm. We need a Local Power Plan. @helenhainesindi #LocalPowerPlan #renewables

A really powerful day of testimonies today at the parliamentary enquiry into the Australian Local Power Agency bill. TRY was proud to be able to contribute with others and advocate for the benefits of community energy to communities. Thanks @helenhainesindi for all your work!

We were thrilled to have a special visitor in Yack on Thursday, checking out the installation at the CFA and the post office. It was an honour to meet such a delightful and engaging person!

Meeting with Totally Renewable Yackandandah, a community organisation pursuing 100% renewable energy for the town. Grateful to Indigo Shire Mayor, Cr Jenny O’Connor, and to Matt Charles-Jones and Ben McGowan, for sharing their vision and for a tour of the battery sites.

The other pioneering #communityEnergy enterprise in Australia is Denmark Community Wind Farm. A contemporary and peer of @hepburnwind. Both achieved amazing outcomes and benefits for their communities. google.com/amp/s/amp.abc.net… dcw.net.au/project.htm

Small town proves you can dream big on renewable energy

It took a decade for the town of Denmark, WA, to realise its goal of a community-owned wind farm, but the project now stands as a model for others in Australia.

And to continue the conversation on @hepburnwind, after ten years of community wind energy they're still innovating #znet #communityEnergy

Replying to @hepburn_energy
As Australia's first community-owned wind farm, we're now looking at another first, becoming a community-owned hybrid facility with solar and battery storage. To reflect these big changes we thought it was time for a new name.....

Now this is a story! We have many groups asking us how we do what we do. Read Hepburn Wind's story - they're one of the first and an inspiration. The secret is persistence and conversations - engage your community. Happy anniversary @hepburnwind 🎉 #communityEnergy

🧵22 june marks @hepburnwind's 10th anniversary of generating clean energy! since the very first kWh sent into the grid ten years ago, gale & gusto, the two turbines of australia's first community-owned wind farm have generated more than 100,000,000 kWh! here's how it happened:

"They like to grow their own vegetables, and they like to share their vegetables amongst themselves. And they see electricity in much the same way." Good piece on community batteries and the great @TotalRenewYack abc.net.au/news/2021-05-24/c…

This battery may not be 'big' but experts say it's enough to 'petrify' energy providers

Battery manufacturers across Australia are pushing into the production of mid-sized batteries for remote towns, schools, and even greenfield housing developments.

For the time being, I'd like to thank everyone who helped create the Local Power Plan and who has helped get the Bill to this point. This is genuine, grass-roots policy-making by regional Australia, for regional Australia.
