One of the games that defined my childhood.
On this date in 1987, "Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!" was released in North America.
BITE-SIZED FACT | Players stepped into the ring as Little Mac, working their way through a colorful cast of opponents in one of the NES era's most memorable boxing games. #80s

The Brewers sweeping the Dodgers has now completely healed my long-term sports wound of them beating the Jays 22-2 in 1993, and has slightly soothed (but not cured) the wound from Game 7 of last year's World Series.

Two things that any Sim City player would have tried.
The classic: Hold Shift and type FUND to receive $10,000. Using it repeatedly can trigger an earthquake, so it’s often best to use it before building much or while the map is mostly empty. I learned that the hard way...
Tax exploit: Keep taxes at 0% most of the year. Just before tax collection, raise them to 20% (or higher), collect the money, then drop them back to 0%. Citizens stay happier as if taxes stayed low. Sim City residents apparetly have a very short memory.
Any other tricks that you remember?

One of the most disappointing endings to an MLB season ever?😬
A franchise that committed over $1.8 billion to just five players:
Ohtani: $700M
Betts: $365M
Yamamoto: $325M
Tucker: $240M
Snell: $182M
2026 adjusted payroll: $339M
Deferred salary commitments: $1.1 billion
And after all that, they get SWEPT in the NLCS by a Milwaukee Brewers team with a $146M payroll 🧹

Duck Hunt for the NES from 1984 felt like magic. The actual technology behind it - though not magic - was pretty smart and relied more on how the human eye works (or in this case: doesn't work).
The NES Zapper is a simple light gun that contains a photodiode (a light sensor) and a trigger button, it doesn’t actually shoot anything itself.
When you pull the trigger in Duck Hunt, the game briefly turns the entire screen black for one frame, then immediately shows a white box exactly where each duck or other target is. The Zapper’s sensor checks whether it sees that sudden bright light, and if it does, the game counts a hit, and if not, it’s a miss.
The reason why you don't see this? It simply happens too fast (a fraction of a second), so you barely notice the flash, especially not in the heat of the moment. This only works properly on old CRT TVs because of how they draw the image.
Illusion perfected!

Some games just stay with you forever.
Contra is one of em. If given the chance I would play at any given moment.

Two and a half hours! That movie is too long and it’s getting late. #dadthoughtsseries
Just finished this game for the first time since 1987. Took me a couple of tries. Credit to my oldest who helped me by controlling the sumo wrestler.
MLB has proposed returning to a 154-game Regular Season, best-of-seven Division Series, and opponent selection in the Wild Card and Division Series
Starting in 2029, shortening the season to a 154-game schedule would create a standard weekly off day benefiting player health, and it would allow the addition of up to 8 more Postseason games by moving to a best-of-seven Division Series format
Beginning in 2027, higher-seeded clubs in the Wild Card and Division Series would select their opponents
The opposite of inside out is not outside in. #dadthoughtsseries
Hmm, that young lad is going too fast on that e-scooter. #dadthoughtsseries
