JANE EVERETT Long Road Home October 17 – November 5, 2026 Everett paints the experience of a place. Water, air, and light translated by her skillful hand. A paddle slips into the lake much like a brush moves across the canvas. Both enter, pull, and lift. Sunlight breaks on the surface and comes back up from below. A line rides the water the way a ripple does, slight, and carrying more than it should. Ingram Art News: Jane Everett - Long Road Home myemail.constantcontact.com/…

Kant on Beauty “The beautiful is what pleases universally without a concept. Kant strips away the need for definitions when discussing beauty. It is an immediate, intuitive pleasure that transcends linguistic boundaries. A judgment of taste is not a judgment of knowledge, and therefore not logical, but aesthetic. We must distinguish between knowing what a tree is and feeling the beauty of its form. These are two distinct modes of operation for the human mind. The beautiful is the object of a necessary satisfaction. The necessity here is subjective, meaning we feel as though others ought to agree with us. It creates a community of shared aesthetic value."

Painting from nature still answers something we crave. Everett paints movement, layers, memory, and hope in her waters. Home, in these paintings, is the road back, and the light ahead.

“Nothing gets the rulers of institutional culture more worried than an intense passion beyond their control—that’s why they avoid the word beauty. ” open.substack.com/pub/tedgio…

While previous studies have linked regular gallery visits to long-term wellbeing, Art Fund said that this was the first time research had captured the real-time physiological benefits while viewing art. Art Fund's director, Jenny Waldman, said: “This study proves for the first time what we've long felt at Art Fund – that art really is good for you. What’s particularly exciting is that the findings show these benefits are universal – they can be experienced by anyone. “We want to encourage everyone to make time to visit their local museum or gallery and experience these powerful effects for themselves.” 🙌 #AtTheGallery

“One must take care to keep pigments and mixture pure on the palette, on the brush, on the canvas.” (OB) Oscar Bluemner built his own private science of color. His Theory Diaries mapped pigments into swatches, mixtures and relationships, complete with his own abbreviations and color codes. This page from 1920 feels remarkably like a palette database made by hand.

Pestl’s debut solo exhibition with Ingram Gallery features sculpture and painting in conversation. Surfaces flake, crack, gleam, and recede. They ask to be looked at and touched. Pestl’s practice sits comfortably in the gallery’s long conversation with Canadian artists that move between material invention and lived place.
