In a world where the word “Jew” is instantaneously perceived as having an inherent connection with Israel, it is our duty to remind the world what we Jews truly personify and have stood for for thousands of years. The Jewish people were not created in the Land of Israel. Our nationhood was cemented at Mount Sinai upon receiving Hashem’s Holy Torah: “And today you have become a people.” Deuteronomy 27:9. The Jewish people never perceived the Holy Land as anything other than a “Holy Land,” its holiness independent of sovereignty. Jews never tried to usher in the redemption, for it is of a spiritual nature and dependent on the Divine orchestration of the Almighty alone. The Jewish people are not “future” Zionists by waiting and praying for the Messiah. Our yearning is for GD to restore His Holy Countenance in the Holy Land and restore peace amongst all the nations. The stark opposite of what Zionism stands for. The Jewish people never prided themselves on national pursuits. What is our pulsating chord, our beating heart, is service of GD, love of GD, and uncompromising loyalty to His Holy Torah. The Jewish people have been proud, and only proud, to be the eternal People of the Book. Our “Jewish” pride never amounted to any mortal, transient pursuits, but only the sacred jewels of Torah, kindness, and humility. That is what made us proud. The Jewish people never tried nationalizing the Holy Land in exile. It is forbidden in Judaism. Throughout the ages various prominent Jewish sages lived in the Holy Land only to bask in its holiness, never to subjugate or nationalize the Holy Land. The Jewish people in the Holy Land lived in peace and with mutual respect before the advent of Zionism. The peace was fractured in the Holy Land and across many ancient Middle Eastern countries when Zionist agitators exploited Jewish identity to advance their nationalist agendas. It was never us. It still isn’t us. In our world, Zionist PR is strong, their grip on the narrative is unyielding, but the truth reflects an entirely different reality. Jews are still what we were throughout thousands of years of robust history. Zionists do wrench our name and profit off it for themselves, against our safety and our morals. But we need to see the nuances, the truth, the silenced majority of Jews who merely wish to live in peace, serve GD wholeheartedly, and live in harmony in the countries they call home.
