Auto insurance in PPI, which is what goes into PCE, came in much cooler than CPI in March month-to-month: 0.1%, versus CPI's 2.6%. That difference alone will shave ~10bps off of monthly core PCE in March relative to core CPI.

Core CPI inflation comes in at 0.36% MM, the same monthly rate as last month. Markets were expecting ~0.27%. Year-on-year core CPI inflation was 3.80% this month, versus 3.75% in February. A few observations. /1

Nothing to see here. Underlying inflation in core CPI (blue) - services inflation x/ owners' equivalent rent, healthcare & transport - is well very behaved in the March data. We're on the tail-end of start-of-year price resets now. Inflation will slow sharply in April data...

For years, Congressional Republicans said they wanted to secure the border. President Biden and his team worked for months with a group of bipartisan Senators to reach a historic bipartisan border deal. And then, Congressional Republicans just walked away.

Absolutely wild that this is presented as something the drug companies are doing and not a law that the Biden admin passed.
Starting today, all three major insulin manufacturers are offering $35/mo caps on out-of-pocket costs. Also today, they’re cutting list prices by 70% or more - a move that’s expected to *save* them hundreds of millions of dollars a year.

Under the Inflation Reduction Act, out-of-pocket costs for insulin in Medicare are now capped at $35 per monthly prescription for Part D, as of January 1, 2023 aspe.hhs.gov/sites/default/…

Today, Jill and I mourn the loss of Ady Barkan and offer our deepest condolences to Rachael, Carl, and Willow during such a difficult time. He turned his pain into purpose and, in turn, inspired optimism in the hearts of countless people living with ALS and their loved ones It’s like he said in a speech just one month ago, “Staying in the struggle can bring beautiful rewards.” I know from experience what it’s like to lose a piece of your soul to a deadly disease – to watch the most honorable person you know fight until the last breath with absolute courage and character. I hope Ady's family can find some measure of comfort in knowing that Ady’s legacy will endure through them, and all those whose lives he touched.

Hi all, this is Ady’s wife, Rachael. I’m devastated to share the news that Ady has died from complications of ALS. You probably knew Ady as a healthcare activist. But more importantly he was a wonderful dad and my life partner for 18 years. [1/4]

It’s rare to see a more self-defeating “offset” than imposing spending cuts that add to the deficit. This was fairly predictable as the IRS money was originally scored as a deficit reducer.
🚨 CBO says the House Israel bill will add $12.5 billion to the deficit. The reason: GOP’s $14.3 billion in IRS cuts lead to a $26.8 billion reduction in revenue, budget office projects. The new report 👇

Every $1 you cut IRS funding will lose about $2 of revenue. So that means this bill would add about $30 billion to the deficit. crfb.org/blogs/irs-rescissio…

Do you know about the @CDCgov Bridge Access Program? This program will provide no-cost COVID-19 vaccines to adults without health insurance and for those who have insurance that does not cover vaccine costs.
