Whatโs the general mood on Nigerian campuses ? Which side are most students on ?
Anyone with some insight ?
Interesting.
BREAKING: President Tinubu is set to inaugurate the APC Presidential Campaign Council (APCC) at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday, October 14, and will flag off his campaign in Kaduna State on October 24.

Lagos is cosmopolitan enough for this not to work. It works because the people they are signaling to are high-propensity voters.
A candidate needs roughly a four-year plan with sophisticated machinery to turn other, low-propensity demographics into high-propensity voters, while also poaching this group.
They should vote for the NDC, whose presidential candidate has promised to continue the naira devaluation you mentioned here?
Is it that you donโt know what you are saying and are ignorant, or are you just confused, or all of the above?
This 2027 election is not one where you can cobble nonsense like this together without anyone telling you how much of a drivel it is.
You can ask people to vote for your whatever, but complaining about naira devaluation and then asking people to vote for a candidate who made it clear that that is one of Mr. Tinubuโs policies he likes is not only ridiculous; itโs also hilarious. Lmao.

Atiku putting this issue front and center of everything and at the heart of our polity is unprecedented. Shows guts , shows instinct. Leaders have to have the gravitas and the conjones to do this kind of thing .
If we elect the guy , we can be sure he is going to have enormous Will to do things and deliver prosperity !

This is a lie and misleading, and you probably know it. I like you, but I understand why you have to do this.
Mr. Tinubu swore and made subsidy look like a sin (it isnโt), so all of you would rather eat jeans than admit that it is a subsidy.
Now, what are the facts? Subsidy does not necessarily have to be paid directly through money transfers. If you forgo revenue that should otherwise have come to the government in the fuel value chain, that is a subsidy.
Many Nigerians donโt know this, but I know that you already had this in place even before your announcement yesterday, by removing the VAT. That VAT you removed is a subsidy. You stated how much that is yearly to the federation as well.
If you go ahead and remove some other charges in the value chain and lose revenue, that is also a subsidy. What you announced yesterday was a cap at 1,350. If oil prices go to $120 per barrel today and your cap remains in place, what happens?
Letโs even assume, without conceding, that private refineries absorb the cost (they wonโt). What happens with NNPC? What are NNPCโs cost differentials, and who is paying the difference? In any scenario where you have forgone revenue in the value chain, it is a subsidy.
Now letโs talk about Atikuโs plan a bit. Atiku is not saying he is going to go into the Central Bank and start transferring money to pay anything either. What he wants to do ( which, by the way, unsettled your entire administration) is sell Nigerian crude at discounted prices to local refiners.
The drop in what should otherwise have accrued to the government from doing that is the subsidy.
So stop being mischievous and misleading gullible Nigerians!
Have a great day!
In the first place, none of their moves goes far enough, as we shouldnโt be buying fuel at such high prices.
The Atiku campaign described it aptly: itโs an attempt to hoodwink.
But whatever political benefit they were trying to get from their tokenism still eludes them, because they have already created a condition that treats subsidy as a sin, so they canโt even properly define the nonsense they are doing.

Itโs the govt you serve in that made subsidy look like one evil โ which it is not btwโthat must be avoided at any and every cost, now you have a PR issue in your hand trying to reintroduce subsidy.

Since 1 October 2026, motorists have been paying less for petrol at NNPC Retail Limited stations, following a discount on the companyโs retail margin. We welcome the relief this brings to households, commuters and transporters.
Some commentators have described the discount as a return of fuel subsidy. That is not correct. Here, plainly, is what the discount is and what it is not.
Every marketer adds a margin to the price it pays for the fuel it sells. A margin discount means the retailer chooses to take a smaller margin, or no margin at all for a period, and passes the saving to the customer. The cost of the discount is borne by the retailer alone.
A subsidy is different. It is when government pays part of the price the consumer would otherwise pay. That money comes from public revenue โ funds that would otherwise go to salaries, schools, hospitals and infrastructure. That is the regime this administration ended in 2023, and it is not coming back.
The discount is not funded by the federal budget or the Federation Account. NNPC Retail buys petrol from the Dangote Refinery and other suppliers at market prices, on commercial terms, then adds its retail margin to set the pump price. The discount comes out of that margin alone, so the discounted pump price remains market-reflective.
This is quite different from crude oil owned by the Federation. Selling the nationโs crude below market price would amount to a subsidy, because the shortfall would be borne by public revenue.

NNPC Retail Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of NNPC Limited, began operations over 20 years ago as a petroleum marketing and retail company. It was set up to ensure the nationwide availability, distribution and affordability of refined petroleum products.
Its purpose, in other words, is to keep products available across the country and to moderate retail prices, not necessarily to maximise retail profit. It has historically sold fuel below the prices of other marketers. The current discount continues that role, and it is a commercial decision that any retailer is free to make.

Some have asked whether a lower margin means lower profits for NNPCL, and so lower dividends to the Federation. It need not. A smaller margin or temporary zero margin on each litre can be more than offset by selling more litres over time. And a discount builds customer loyalty that lasts well beyond the discount period itself. Together, these can raise NNPC Retailโs profits, and the dividends paid to the Federation: a win-win for consumers and for government. Margin discounts are a routine commercial strategy, used by retailers the world over.

The retail margin on petrol is less than 5 percent of the pump price. A discount within that margin cannot meaningfully widen the gap between prices in Nigeria and in neighbouring countries, where petrol already costs 20 to 40 percent more. It therefore creates no new incentive for smuggling, and no distortion of the kind that subsidy regimes produced in the past.

We recognise that fuel prices continue to weigh on households and businesses. The discount is one of several measures government is pursuing to ease that burden, alongside the expansion of CNG transport, the waiver of taxes and duties on petrol, and the removal of illegal levies that inflate transport costs. Each is designed to bring relief without returning Nigeria to a subsidy regime that the country can no longer afford.

They shut themselves in the leg from a political standpoint. They could probably have continued what they were doing before ( which some of us have always noted is a subsidy) by doing it codedly.
But they had to come out and spin it as some mercy for Nigerians, and it has now backfired.
So they still wonโt own up, but would rather gaslight the people. We wonโt stand for it!

After Bush, Trump was the only Republican who could win. Obama would have succeeded in having Hillary Clinton succeed him easily had Trump ran as a typical republican.
Trump was a Republican but he wasnโt the starry eyed type . He wasnโt Lindsay Graham . So he shifted them on every single issue they have embraced and championed in recent years .
Many people even do not know that more Immigration historically used to be a mainstay policy of the GOP.
The general pattern in many countries in recent years is that electorates punish parties that keep treating an economic model as self-justifying after its distributional results have become visible and unpopular.
You have to be crazy to continue to insist that the whole subsidy removal thing was working and a holy grail. It wasnโt .
Leadership has gone beyond applying starry eyed theory to things . You have to be pragmatic and center the people.
In many countries these days , Voters do not score ideologies ( Never mind that that do not even exist among any current leaders now in Nigeria ) they score results that show up in wages, prices, safety, and status.
So what happened? Trump then gained Obama voters and Bernie voters by using economic policies that some in the GOP would not have used four years earlier with Romney.
Before they knew what was happening, he already had them cornered.
But the juice of the point Iโm trying to make is that none of that would have been possible if he had stuck to textbook GOP ideas.
He is easily the most fluid, pragmatic leader of the last 30 years.
