Boston, Somerville, Chelsea, and several other Massachusetts municipalities have formal sanctuary-city ordinances limiting cooperation with federal immigration authorities, and in 2025 Boston's City Council extended that protected status to LGBTQIA2S+ residents as well. so people with a criminal background can come and terrorize people. Graduated/"millionaire's" income tax (Fair Share Amendment) Massachusetts had a flat-rate income tax written into its constitution for about a century (since the 1910s), explicitly to prevent a graduated tax. Voters amended that in 2022 to add a 4% surtax on income over $1 million, on top of the standard 5% rate — the first departure from flat-rate income taxation in the state's modern history. this is private property seizure. People work hard to make life better for everyone - under the profit motive. You work hard, you earn the right. But our politicians want a piece of that cake. Shield laws and expanded state protections tied to federal pushback Beyond abortion, Massachusetts has built out a broader "shield" framework in response to federal policy shifts — protecting providers of gender-affirming care and reproductive care from out-of-state legal action, restricting data-sharing that could expose patients to prosecution elsewhere, and layering in interstate licensure protections for health professionals. This class of law (state actively shielding residents/providers from another state's or the federal government's legal reach) is a distinctly 21st-century phenomenon with no real 20th-century equivalent. and we all can see the growth of state agency/regulatory headcount and DEI-related offices in state government and public higher ed -- all paid for by both you and I. politicians are not the makers - they are the takers that want to give your money to what they think is important.
