Earlier this week, I went before the Huntington Town Board to present my senior thesis, “Keeping Huntington Home: Proposals to Address the Housing Crisis in Huntington, NY.” This was the result of a year-long effort to identify market-oriented reforms to address housing affordability, and ultimately showed that the solution is not more government, but less. We must build housing to address this crisis, and I hope that this analysis may serve to guide legislators as they tackle this issue.

We have nationwide rent controls now. This tribunal didn’t just stop a rent rise within a tenancy, it cut the rent to below what had been agreed between the landlord and the tenant at the start of the tenancy based on a judgement of what the property is worth.

The city is not supposed to spend funds on electoral campaigns so this is "get out the vote" campaign that is HEAVILY implying you should vote a certain way without saying it. We saw the same thing with the City Council last year, and the year before.
On November 3rd, you can Vote on Faster Government. Visit vote.nyc to find where to vote and what's on your ballot.

It’s been a busy month across the 12th Assembly District! Here’s what I’ve been up to in the community:

Today, I joined the Huntington community for the dedication of Sorrentino Way and the First Annual Huntington Italian-American Festival. The crowd that packed the street this morning is a testament to the profound impact that Andrea and Luisa Sorrentino, alongside their whole family, have had on our town. They embody the Italian-American Dream in our nation: a strong commitment to both the foundational values of our nation and the family-first cultural spirit of the old country. Huntington has always been lucky to have the Sorrentinos, including Long Island’s finest Highway Superintendent, Andre Sorrentino. I look forward to celebrating our Italian-American heritage in the Town of Huntington on Sorrentino Way for years to come.

This morning, I joined the Huntington community for the dedication of Sorrentino Way in honor of the life and legacy of Andrea and Luisa Sorrentino. The Sorrentino family embodies what the embrace of the American Dream and service to the community are.

I’m proud to be working alongside my fellow YRs in the @HuntingtonNYYR to elect Republicans up and down the ballot like @nicklalota and @DaveWeberForNY who will fight to make Long Island safer and more affordable.
Great to see so many people fired up in Huntington this weekend! With Bruce Blakeman leading the ticket for Governor, we have an opportunity to put a check on the Hochul-Mamdani agenda and get New York back on track. That means stopping the defund-the-police agenda and taxpayer-funded freebies for illegal migrants, making energy more affordable, and preventing a government takeover of private property and businesses.    Bruce and our entire team are committed to defending our freedoms, securing our borders, protecting our elections, and making New York safer and more affordable. Let’s get out the vote, bring Bruce Blakeman across the finish line, and put common sense back in charge in Albany! 🇺🇸

I’m struck by the details on this guy. Carpenter. Father. Gun owner. This is a guy who has a stake in the world. He heard gunshots from his car and followed the shooter into the school. The nihilists who wish to destroy our world have no chance against men like him.
JUST IN: The man who stopped the school shooting in Bend, Oregon, has been identified as 36-year-old Kalub Giamanco. Giamanco, a carpenter, was reportedly driving home for lunch when he heard gunshots. After hearing the gunshots, Giamanco, who has a concealed carry permit, followed the suspect into the school. He then shot and killed 16-year-old John J Griffin moments after the teen opened fire into a special education classroom. Giamanco, who has two children of his own who attend the school, is family friends with one of the victims, a 7-year-old who uses a wheelchair and was shot in the face. The 7-year-old survived and is in the hospital. Three children at Silver Rail Elementary School were killed. Their ages are 5, 8, and 11. According to Giamanco's brother, Giamanco doesn't feel like a hero because he feels guilty for not being able to save more children. You are a hero, Kalub.

It is no secret to anyone who reads my commentary that I think our federal government is a disaster and that our 4th District congressional seat was bought by special interest groups that wouldn’t know Corinth from Cold Spring. However, I do think there is actual fruit to be shown from the efforts of our Republican majority in the state legislature. I believe our policy trajectory at the state level is far more consistent with the principles of limited government than what we are seeing at the federal level. I’m not saying that for my own sake, I’m running unopposed. And I wouldn’t just make a blanket statement without bringing receipts. Look at what Republicans have accomplished in Frankfort since taking the majority in 2017: Constitutional Carry Right to Work Income tax reduction Genuine spending cuts Multiple substantive Pro-Life protections Banned males in girls/women’s sports Outlawed child gender mutilation Banned taxpayer funded DEI Cut red tape for farmers Free speech protections That’s not an exhaustive list, just a few things that would have never happened without a Republican majority. Are there plenty of other bills I would like to see passed? Sure, and I’m sure every other representative and senator would say the same. Are there bills I wish hadn’t passed? Absolutely. But to me it comes down to this: Unlike the federal level, Republicans in the state legislature have actually taken the reins and gotten stuff done since we have had the majority. We haven’t squandered every opportunity and hidden behind hollow talking points on FOX News. Unlike the federal level, we haven’t lost the plot. If the Republican Party platform is to be salvaged from the shifting sands of populism, I believe it must occur at the state level. This is where we will rebuild the Republican Party and the conservative movement. We must unabashedly defend life, uphold the Constitution, and demand fiscal restraint. We must restore the system of government that our Founders intended, and lay waste to the brazen political idolatry that has taken root in our great nation! 🇺🇸

I had an excellent time speaking with members of the @LIBuildersInst at their annual Meet the Candidates event this evening. As I speak with residents across AD12, affordability is the top issue. I look forward to working with LIBI members to find solutions in Albany.

Sheesh - that’s actually even WORSE than the assumption I was going with in my article. I’d be surprised if Suozzi won reelection by any more than mid-single digits. Fundamentally, NY-03 is getting absolutely DRAGGED to the right under his feet. Suozzi could ABSOLUTELY lose.
NEW from DeCalibrate: Suozzi Faces Every GOP Headwind Possible Jews swinging right. The wealthy hardly shifting left. Suozzi won by 4 mostly uncontested. Now Hochul’s set to lose NY-03 by more than Kamala, while Suozzi’s getting outspent. Could he lose? decalibrate.substack.com/p/a…

I had an excellent time this evening connecting with members of the @LIBuildersInst at their Meet the Candidates event. Our Long Island builders and their partners are the backbone of our community’s response to the housing crisis. As someone deeply concerned about the issue of housing on Long Island, I was heartened by their commitment to building a better future for the next generation of Long Islanders.

Dear Democrats, Italian-Americans didn’t get a seat at the table, we BUILT the table. Columbus Day is how we claimed our place after being lynched and shut out. Honor Indigenous Peoples all you want, but you don’t get to erase Italian-Americans by doing it.🤌

Established by President Harrison in 1892 in response to the Italian Americans who were murdered in America’s single largest mass lynching , today we celebrate Columbus Day. It was a plea for equality and to celebrate the Italian American community’s indelible contributions to the United States. This elevation of the great Italian explorer who discovered the Americas dignified millions of us who have endured and still experience prejudice and discrimination for our Italian American heritage and Catholic background. From Philip Mazzei introducing the belief that “All Men are Created Equal” to Thomas Jefferson to the countless hours of labor and innovation given by them to build America into a mighty nation, we salute Italians and Americans of Italian Descent for playing an indispensable role in our country’s glory. Please celebrate today with me as we honor the many contributions made by worthy Italians and Italian Americans to our nation.
