My husband asked for a DNA test after his friend returned from abroad and told him that some men were raising children who weren't theirs. I never imagined that one conversation would destroy the peace in my marriage. My husband, Michael, and I had been married for seven years. We had two beautiful children, a six-year-old boy and a four-year-old girl. I stood by him when he lost his job, supported his little business, and helped him rebuild his life when everyone else walked away. Then his friend came back from the UK. Within weeks, Michael started acting strangely. He would stare at our children for too long, ask questions about their features, and make comments about how our son looked nothing like him. I ignored it until one evening when he came home, dropped an envelope on the dining table, and said something that made my heart stop. Michael: I want us to do a DNA test on both children. I stared at him, waiting for him to laugh and say he was joking. Me: What did you just say? Michael: My friend opened my eyes. He told me never to trust anybody blindly, not even your wife. I felt tears gathering in my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. Me: No, Michael. You are accusing me. You just don't have the courage to say it directly. He folded his arms. Michael: If you have nothing to hide, why are you afraid of a DNA test? That question broke something inside me. I slowly removed my wedding ring and placed it beside the envelope. Me: I'll agree to the DNA test, but there's one condition. He looked relieved. Michael: What condition? Me: If you need a test to believe that I've been faithful to you, then I need a divorce. I refuse to remain married to a man who can throw seven years of loyalty away because his friend filled his head with suspicion. His expression changed immediately. Michael: You're asking for a divorce over a simple test? Me: No. I'm asking for a divorce because my husband no longer trusts me. He laughed bitterly and picked up the envelope. Michael: Fine.
