We’re back up! Normally I wouldn’t ask this, but if you’ve already seen the original video, I’d really appreciate it if you could watch it again, give it a like and/or a comment, just to signal to the algorithm that it’s worth watching. Thanks! youtu.be/-4IB4wCZME4
New video! It feels like the "male gaze" has finally reached mainstream recognition as a bad movie trope. Now, women are sharing their own stories, and men are... well, what are we doing? What does male desire look like in this new era? Can we still gaze? youtu.be/An5WXkDqBfU

I really like both of these actors and I look forward to watching this but I worry neither of them have enough grease nor sleaze to really pull this off
First look at ‘MIAMI VICE '85’, starring Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler. • Directed by Joseph Kosinski (‘Top Gun: Maverick’) • In theaters on May 19, 2028

Not sure if "third spaces died" is actually key here. When I was young, coffeeshops cost money too. So we mostly just hung out in each other's bedrooms, or were out in the neighborhood; playing soccer in alleys, skating empty parking lots... etc. We just didn't have smartphones
"Why is everyone so lonely?" Because friendship requires disposable income now. Third spaces died. Libraries got defunded. Parks aren't enough. Coffee shops expect you to buy things. Where exactly should we go?

Smartphones & social media caused the twofold problem of 1; suppressing the specific kind of loneliness that urges us to seek out others, and 2; dulling the specific kind of boredom that breeds social creativity. Like, when there was nothing to do, you just found something to do

Oh nvm claim just got released, not sure what’s going on, but the video should be back up again for everyone!
And it's blocked... I appealed the claim but apparently it's still blocked in most territories while the claimant reviews my appeal, @TeamYouTube no longer giving us the benefit of the doubt? If it turns out to be a baseless claim (which it is) this will just kill performance

New video! Film criticism, and by extension, movie culture, is increasingly obsessed with explaining what movies mean, as if they're mere objects waiting to be excavated for content, for their "true" story. But is that really what the art of cinema is for? youtu.be/J56XPMA6KHI

New video up now on Nebula! I've been wanting to make this one for a while now, not really because I was bothered by the film criticism of others, but because I feel like I've been running into the limits of my own: nebula.tv/videos/lsoo-modern…

Also, pretty sure Run, Hide, Fight: Infidels used generative AI
I thought this would maybe make for another interesting object of analysis but really there's just nothing there

"We no longer travel into the unknown as much as we are trying to actualize a pre-existing mental image of it. The foreign is no longer just a fascination, it has also become a commodity, it has become a product to be selected and purchased" youtu.be/FjV3tkrCYIY
OMG, do you know how much of a flex this is?? 😭

Here's an actual professional though
What's happening here is a color technique called Split Toning, which has become more popular in the last couple of years. It has to do with the Color Grading process that footage goes through in post-production. 🧵

Sooo I made this video... "Why Movies Just Don't Feel 'Real' Anymore" youtu.be/tvwPKBXEOKE?si=9oV6…
I NEED a professional to tell me why everything looks like this now. It was the same problem with Wicked and a million other recent movies. WHAT is going on here?? And why so much backlighting??????

New video! 15 years ago, Drive became a particular obsession to me. And now, at 35, I finally understand why. More than being a male power fantasy, more than merely being stylishly cool, Drive defined the emotional texture of what it was like to be 20: youtu.be/UVA7phJ4iTc

No time for (performative) purity when the fate of your people directly depends on the continued support from a country whose actions & allegiances are increasingly erratic & despotic. It's an ugly move, but Zelensky is clearly trading his soul for his nation's survival here
You can rot in hell after this statement.

That sad feeling of watching a video essay only to hear that one line that suddenly betrays the script was written with AI. Even if the creator only used it partially or as a supplement, it still just turns me off completely

Also, I low-key hate that I'm now watching every new video with this latent suspicion. That I constantly feel myself scanning for "AI language" just because some deep down part of me wants to stay in touch with actual human beings, not generated content

Uploaded a new version to YouTube but still getting an age restriction. Hoping this might pass the check after an additional review (no suggestive images in this one so should be strictly educational), otherwise it might take another day or so to do another round of censoring
Welp, took less than an hour, but YT indeed hit me with an age restriction, meaning I’ll be getting 0 ad revenue from this video. If you want to support my work, and see the uncensored version, please consider watching this video on Nebula: nebula.tv/videos/lsoo-can-th…
