I spoke one-on-one with Gausman, Varsho, and Hoffman before the trio was dealt at the trade deadline.
Many just think of these guys as entertainers who make millions to play a sport but they’re also humans with real emotions and families. thescore.com/mlb/news/356975…
Things I love about AM34 so far:
- Production is back (16 points in 10 games)
- Has taken Mckenna under his wing. They work on small things before and after practice consistently
- Already talking about urgency. Was more laid back in the past. Evolving as a captain.
"The way [Auston] Matthews is moving and carrying himself as the leader of this team to start this season feels different." 🫡
@JDBunkis and @SamAMcKee discuss what they've noticed from the Maple Leafs captain so far this season.

If there's one thing that's even more impressive than his playmaking ability, it's Gavin McKenna's ability to handle the media. He's had to deal with noise around skipping an optional skate and a benching and handled it perfectly both times.

Gavin McKenna said him and Auston Matthews had a sleepover on Sunday
“Might have to have weekly sleepovers” 😂
Hold the line @SamAMcKee
The jokes write themselves lol.
Jesus Sanchez to be designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks, per @SteveGilbertMLB.
Interesting take here by Vlad. I don’t think his production prior to signing that extension was worth what he got. The Jays are paying for what should be his prime years (27-33). Gotta feel some obligation to earn what you’re receiving.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on his $500 million contract with the #BlueJays and his poor performance this season:
“The contract I got was based on what I did, not necessarily for what I’m going to do. I understand why the fans believe it’s the other way around. Sometimes I think that way too, like “oh they give me this money and I’m not doing enough”, but you know I try my best and I’m working hard.
The fans I know how they are, when you are doing great they are 100% behind you but when you are not at your best not everybody is behind you, almost nobody supports you. Those are my real fans, the ones that are supporting me all the time.”

What it do, babyyyyyy!
Just in: Toronto Raptors All-NBA star Kawhi Leonard has agreed on a two-year, $115 million contract extension with the franchise, plus a player option for the 2028-29 season, his agent Harrison Gaines of SLASH Sports tells ESPN.

These are Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s numbers this year in wins vs. losses.
Anyone who tells you his performance isn’t the main reason the Blue Jays are likely to miss the postseason is ignoring the obvious.

Done deal: The LA Clippers and Raptors have both agreed to complete the trade sending Kawhi Leonard to Toronto for Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, two unprotected first-round picks, one first-round pick swap and two second-rounders, per ESPN sources. The sides will now schedule a trade call.

Congrats Pablo.
BREAKING: The NBA has ruled on the Los Angeles Clippers in for salary cap circumvention investigations on Kawhi Leonard after yearlong probe -- stripping the franchise of 5 first-round picks, issuing a $30 million fine to owner Steve Ballmer and suspensions for Ballmer, Lawrence Frank and Gillian Zucker, sources tell ESPN.
Kawhi Leonard will have to pay $700,000 in restitution for improper benefits by the Clippers for his uncle and former business rep, Dennis Robertson. No contract void or suspension for Leonard. And Robertson -- who was fired by Leonard in June -- is being banned by the NBA from all business dealings.
I don’t understand Marte’s endgame. He has a full NTC and five years left on his deal with a team that’s been extremely forgiving. If this was the NFL he would be cut already. Nobody should be above the organization like this.
Robert goes to the team the Jays are directly fighting for a playoff spot. We shall see if it makes a difference in a tight wild-card race but at least Baltimore is showing a sense of urgency.
The Orioles were just behind the #BlueJays in the claim queue for Robert Jr., meaning Toronto did not end up submitting a claim.
