HARSH TRUTH CHECK-IN: ALLEGHENY COUNTY PRETRIAL SERVICES.
Let me tell you how “supervision” worked at Allegheny County Pretrial Services.
If you were released on non-monetary bond with a pending criminal case and were required to report to Pretrial Services, but never showed up, what happened?
Nothing.
If you DID report and showed up high or intoxicated, what happened?
Nothing.
The supervision officers knew. The supervisors knew. The deputy director and director, who were responsible for overseeing the operation, also knew.
Failing to report or reporting under the influence violated the conditions of release. Yet, in my experience, Pretrial did not call the Sheriff's Office to have these defendants taken into custody.
Think about that.
Defendants were released into the community under the promise of supervision. But what good is supervision when violating the conditions of your release carries no consequences?
To the defendants who figured out how the system worked, it was a joke.
It was never a joke to the communities that suffered the consequences.
I worked inside that office for 14½ years. I watched it happen.
And I have a lot more stories to tell.

Good morning X World. Today's throwback is to September 10, 2001. The day before our world changed forever. These aren't my words. But it's how I feel.
My friends, as you settle down tonight for bed, remember that, on this night…..25 years ago, 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights. 2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning tomorrow. 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift. 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol. 8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift of saving lives. None of them saw past 10:00 am Sept 11, 2001. In one single moment life may never be the same.
As you live and enjoy the breaths you take today and tonight before you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow, kiss the ones you love, snuggle a little tighter, and never take one second of your life for granted.
I'm still pissed and I WILL NEVER forget. 🇺🇸

PITTSBURGH — PLEASE SHARE! $200 REWARD
A friend of mine lost a light tan Nokona softball glove at Magee Field in Greenfield on Monday night (8/17) on the farther/back field. $200 cash reward for its return. No questions asked.
She has had this glove for 20 years and is devastated. It has enormous sentimental value.
If you were at Magee this week, know someone who plays there, or have any Greenfield/baseball connections, please share and ask around. Thank you.

Sam Schulz was so easy to root for. He was a fighter, undeniably tougher than you or me, with a personality that gravitated others to him. Which is why his story resonated far beyond Evansville.
Column on a true inspiration to many. He will be missed.

In other news, the Rockies selected C Jack Natili (Peters Township/Cincinnati) at No. 76 and the Nationals took SS Luke Williams (Franklin Regional) at No. 78, right before the Pirates took DeCaro.
I trust WPIAL products Natili and Williams will terrorize the Pirates for years.
