The failure to hold anyone responsible for Russiagate now has to be accepted as permanent. After all these years, even after someone with the determination, pedigree, experience, and genuine desire to make accountability happen was finally put in a position to do something about it, it still did not happen. At this point, the conclusion is unavoidable. None of the people responsible for Russiagate have been held accountable, and none of them ever will be. That is the sad end of the story. It is also a stark reminder that, despite President Trump breaking through decades, perhaps even centuries, of entrenched political rule, the underlying system of corruption remains alive and well. The institutions, networks, incentives, and protections that allowed all of this to happen are still there. They therefore have to be fought as if this were day one. The Russiagate fraudsters got away with Russiagate. The impeachment liars got away with impeachment. The people responsible for the lies and abuses of the Covid era got away with those too. But that is no reason to stop. It is the reason to keep going. The machine has to be fought. There is no other way. There is no retreat, and there is no giving up.
