🤖 Did you know @Nvidia and @CoreWeave use VictoriaMetrics for #monitoring?
CoreWeave sells an AI cloud that includes #GPU clusters, managed Kubernetes, and storage. The company rents GPUs to AI labs for training and serving models. CoreWeave exposes infrastructure #telemetry to its customers as part of the platform, and the company describes its VictoriaMetrics deployment as one of the largest in the world.
NVIDIA Cloud Functions (#NVCF) is NVIDIA’s platform for running GPU workloads as functions. You package an inference model, and NVCF routes requests to GPU workers that can serve it. NVIDIA’s self-managed edition brings the same platform to your own #Kubernetes clusters, and NVCF Release 1.0.1 ships with a single-node VictoriaMetrics chart as the default for #metrics storage.
NVIDIA hasn’t said why it picked VictoriaMetrics as the default, but here are a few likely reasons
🪶 Simplicity: VictoriaMetrics runs as a single binary with no external dependencies.
⚡ Efficiency: A metrics store that uses less RAM and disk than Prometheus leaves more free resources on the cluster for work.
🛡️ Reliability: Metrics need to be reliable. If the backend is down, scaling stops. That makes VictoriaMetrics a critical moving part of NVCF. VictoriaMetrics is designed to survive unclean shutdowns without corrupting data and to restart in seconds.
📜 License: VictoriaMetrics is Apache 2.0
Curious how NVIDIA uses metrics to drive GPU autoscaling, and how CoreWeave plugged an AI agent into its metrics?

In 2017, I started learning Go, mostly from curiosity. After working some years for Mattermost, I learnt enough to start sharing that knowledge with the community. Today I’m honored to share that I’ve been recognized as a @GoogleDevExpert in Go.
This wouldn’t have happened without a lot of people involved in my own process, from the extremely welcoming Go community, to my companies, @kaleidosnet, @Mattermost, @ona_hq, and now @VictoriaMetrics, that has been always supportive and helping me to contribute back to the community.
The GDE program is about sharing knowledge, so, there is not going to change much from my side, except that I'll have even more support to keep sharing with you what I learn in Go.

simd package is going to make Go great again! For creating faster Go programs than in Rust :)
Thanks to @jespinog for writing such a clear article about simd support in Go!
My article about SIMD and Go is out!
In this one I explain how one CPU instruction can work on 8 numbers at once, and how you can now use that from plain Go with the experimental simd/archsimd and simd packages.
My intention with this post is to explain in simple terms how SIMD works at CPU level, to give you the mental model on how to use it, and then give you enough information about how you use it from Go to start working with it.

Our DevRel, @DianavTodea, will take the stage with her talk:
🎤 How to Defeat OTel’s Silent Killer: The Performance Overhead
Ever watched your pipeline silently eat up CPU and memory, without any obvious errors? That's the silent killer of #OpenTelemetry: performance overhead. Excessive instrumentation, unoptimized exporters, and high-cardinality data can lead to resource spikes, latency, and unexpected costs. We'll break down the sources of OpenTelemetry overhead, show how to measure and visualize its impact, and walk through practical techniques for reducing it. From sampling strategies to batching, from smarter exporters to #backend tuning, the audience will learn in a live demo how to keep the benefits of #OTel without burning your infrastructure budget. By the end, attendees will have concrete strategies to optimize their own observability pipelines for both performance and cost.

TIL: Linux (and Docker, Kubernetes) containers are regular processes with different views for the network, filesystem, process hierarchy, etc.
My article about Linux Namespaces is out.
I start by creating a new namespace for the hostname by hand and explore all the way down to the kernel structures that makes it possible.
At the end, the answer is pointers. Each process has pointers to the namespaces that it belongs to, and when the kernel needs to find something asked by this process, follow those pointers and the response comes from those namespaces.
I focused in the uts namespace (hostname) and also mention the time namespace, because they are the simplest ones, but the concepts apply to the others.

VictoriaMetrics is heading to P99!
The event for developers who care about high-performance, low-latency applications.
🚀 Our Co-Founder, @hagen1778, will present, “Writing a TSDB from Scratch: Performance Optimization.”
Application Performance #Monitoring and #Kubernetes monitoring in their current state are pretty expensive. The average VictoriaMetrics installation processes 2-4 million samples/s on the ingestion path and 20-40 million samples/s on the read path. The largest installations handle 100 million samples/s on the ingestion path. This requires being very clever with data pipelines to keep them efficient and scalable as resources scale. In this session, we’ll explore essential optimizations to maintain database speed, such as string interning, caching results, goroutine management and understanding sync.pool.

I want to share something that the @VictoriaMetrics team faced recently that I think it is an interesting case. I'm communicating it, but the heavy lifting of this was done by other members of the team.
The Go race detector found a race condition within the http client that catch us by surprise, so the team dig into it, and found two interesting things. If found this race in two places, one of the races, in our case, was not a problem, it could be, but not in our case, so we didn't fixed, but the second one actually was a bug, so we fixed it. If you want to know the details and understand what was happening, why not fixing it was the right choice for us, and why fixing the second one was needed, check out the blog post.

TIL: Go provides the ability to execute arbitrary code between compile stages via -toolexec flag. Read the following great article from @kakkoyun_me if you are curious when this flag could be useful.
Please welcome to my blog Kemal Akkoyun, who works at Datadog and helps maintain otelc, OpenTelemetry's compile-time instrumentation tool for Go. Today he shows how to take part in a Go build without patching the compiler.
The way in is `go build -toolexec`. Every compile, asm and link run goes through a program you pick, which gets the tool's path and arguments. From there, Kemal builds up step by step, first watching, then rewriting, and going down all the rabbit hole until he end up explaining how otelc does it.
