Employer-sponsored family premiums (covering most Americans) rose from $13,770 in 2010 to $26,993 in 2025 per KFF data—nearly doubling. Single coverage went from $5,049 to $9,325. In the individual market reformed by the ACA, average benchmark silver premiums rose from about $232/month in 2013 to $625 in 2026—nearly tripling.

Medicare open enrollment opens today (Oct 15–Dec 7). My parents are 80, so this one's personal: avg MA premiums ~$12, fewer plans, new star-rating rules. Read the Annual Notice of Change — auto-renew isn't a strategy. Agree?

The fix is 20 focused minutes: compare TOTAL cost (premium + deductible + out-of-pocket max), not just the per-paycheck deduction. Then ask HR the question you're embarrassed to ask. They've heard dumber. I promise.

AI can translate the jargon into plain English now — use it for that, but make the call yourself. What's the one benefits question you've always been afraid to ask? Drop it here, I'll answer a few today.

Being a dad is just telling yourself “it’s been an expensive month, we’ll get back on track next month” over and over again until you die
