Good call by @ScotGovernment in trying to keep #Erasmus exchange funding going. Scholarship in HE is an #international venture and during my career I have worked or studied in England, Ireland, Germany and the US and retain my @AvHStiftung links.

Given the changes to schools and exams across most of UK, I'm available for much of the next 4 weeks on @Tutorful at sensible rates for tuition in a range of subjects but with a particular focus on #Earth and #Environmental Sciences. Virtual field trips too!

One of my favourite courses starts on Thu 21 Jan, 4-6pm: Scotland's Volcanoes, a six week online course. course-bookings.lifelong.ed.… Image is some lovely magma chamber rocks on Isle of Rum. We explore volcanic rocks from Shetland to Arran and lots of places in between!

Replying to @TomChallands
It means we can have an "internal" and a "public" version of our data. With `pglogical`, any changes to data in the tables of the "internal" PostgreSQL are automatically (and instantly) applied to the tables in the "public" one. 1/2

So grateful for amazing collaborators like @Joseph_Bevitt putting in the hard yards for us when COVID makes interstate travel difficult/impossible but we don’t want to lose precious @ANSTO @ausynchrotron beamtime 🙏🏾
Science life doesn't get better than this! At the @ausynchrotron in Melbourne 3D imaging fossils on IMBL, while simultaneously remotely running the #neutronCT instrument Dingo back in Sydney with local tech staff changing samples! Amazing support and teamwork ❤🥳

1/2 New preprint for #PhylogeneticsFriday! We simulate realistic morphological datasets use the @palaeoware package TREvoSim and find that sampling of fossil taxa vastly improves the accuracy of phylogenies inferred from morphology. tinyurl.com/yycsy4rf

Recording of last night's lecture by Graham Leslie "A Caledonian cruise across Iapetus on Anglesey" is now online. It was a wee bit complicated (and very well told) so it is good we can watch it again ... edinburghgeolsoc.org/lecture…

Great to have been able to work with Jorge Mondéjar Fernández, Philippe Janvier, Gael Clement and their Vietnamese colleagues on an intriguing little lungfish from Vietnam. Just let me know if you would like a free eprint. tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.…

Following up yesterday’s tweet from @rthandiackal on our #zebrafish locomotion work, it’s hard to overemphasize how detailed the velocity vector fields are using IR light and small algae as tracer particles. Paper in @J_Exp_Biol (bit.ly/3gwRrI5) #swimming #fishsci
