Ngugi wa Thiong'o's book River Between must have greatly inspired Margret Ogola's River & The Source. Ogola, first of the trailblazing feminist writers of the 90s, looks enraged by Ngugi's treatment of female characters. For every female Ngugi kills, Ogola kills 3 men. Payback!

Moment this plane landed at JKIA on this day last year it felt like the world came to an end. Time stood still. Baba's last touchdown. Aaaah! Agwambo you did us bad. Told my colleagues I was no longer useful in the meeting. I had to go stand along Uhuru Highway to wave at Baba!
The Day Baba Died.
I went to Kamukunji in Kibera - where Baba was loved for free. Never seen grief written on the faces of my people like that Wednesday evening. People spoke in turns. An elderly woman asked: kama ni pesa ya matibabu ilikosekana mbona hatukuambiwa tuchange? Sad

The idea behind Machoka at 50 was so brilliant. This is us watching the best of Africa on stage one after the other. Obachi commands respect from the old, the young, the powerful and everyone. To imagine this was once a police officer who fell in love with the microphone! Respect
Hey Benny McCarthy, this here is former Gor Mahia Coach Dylan Kerr.
He knew we were shit.
He knew we couldn't beat top teams.
But he never told us so, publicly.
Instead he showed us love.
He embraced us.
He became a part of us.
And we loved him back.
Oops he didn't win UCL, sorry

If I'm asked about a man not celebrated enough in Kenya's music scene it's Daudi Kabaka. His song 'Mueni Wangu' otherwise titled 'Shemeji Lilumbe' is my fav. Full of teachings but the guitar strummed by John Nzenze, Isaya Mwinamo and Kabaka himself in this recording is epic!
