The City of Lakewood has updated or replaced 365 curb ramps to be ADA-compliant since 2023. Compliant ramps use a proper slope, width, landing area, & detectable warnings (a contrasting surface signaling to people with vision impairments that they are approaching a vehicle area.

Curb Extensions, also known as “bump-outs,” increase pedestrian safety by:
• Enhancing visibility of pedestrians to vehicle drivers, known as “daylighting.”
• Shortening crossing distance & duration.
• Slowing down vehicles through crossings by visually narrowing the road.
