Europol has seized 25 tonnes of endangered eels destined for smuggling in Asia.
Experts believe gangs who are smuggling the lucrative fish are pushing it towards extinction.

Whilst on patrol with @EPWildlife, officers had reports of people illegally fishing in the Colchester area.
Three people were stopped and searched, and fishing equipment was seized.
Two people were reported for no fishing licence and theft offences.

Don't forget it’s Close Season for coarse fishing on rivers ⚠️
This means it's illegal to fish for coarse fish in rivers until 15th June inclusive.
If you spot illegal fishing, you can report this to us on 0800 80 70 60.

Our team recently helped run a rural crime training session at Hanningfield Waterside Park for over 100 officers from the EA, the police and local authorities.

Our officers recently patrolled the River Chelmer & Blackwater with @AnglingTrust colleagues as part of the closed coarse fishing season.
On this occasion there was no one fishing.

Fisheries Enforcement Officers recently lead a joint operation with @EPWildlife
and @AnglingTrust.
They checked over 150 anglers at Hanningfield Reservoir where 27 were reported for not having a valid rod licence.

Our officers recently carried out an electro fishing survey and health check at Polstead pond.
Electro fishing involves passing a mild electrical field through the water to immobilise the fish.
They are caught and placed in a holding tank filled where they recover.

Our team recently carried out an audit at Hanningfield Reservoir in Essex.
Officers were on hand to check regulations were being followed as 3000 rainbow trout were stocked into the reservoir.
