Book 32 of 2023: Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk…I never saw the movie, and I picked up the book for myself while Christmas shopping a couple weeks ago. Palahniuk writes in a unique style — it’s choppy and repetitive prose with short chapters. The whole book was only +/- 150 pages
I found it less entertaining and more meaningful. He is definitely writing about substantial themes — male mental illness, community, deconstruction of once trusted systems, and purpose among them.
Book 31 of 2023: Gone Tomorrow by Lee Child
The 13th in the Reacher series, a distinctive of this one is that Reacher narrates. Otherwise, just more chases and fights and problem solving. As I’ve said before, if you’ve read one you’ve read them all.
But still, I read them. 🤷🏻♂️
When the Church has the most earthly power it is weak. (i.e. the Dark Ages)
When the Church has the least earthly power it is strong. (i.e. 1st Century)
Why do the people of God find political power so alluring? What does it profit us to gain the world but lose our soul?
“America First” does not square with Scripture.
Jesus said the last shall be first and the first shall be last. If you want to be great you must become a servant, etc.
Primacy can be an American aspiration, but it’s not a Christian one.
