NATO is in far bigger danger than anyone realizes. And the reason has nothing to do with defense budgets.
The real danger is psychological. It’s cultural.
Europeans didn’t just free-ride on American security for 80 years. They built an entire identity around the idea that they evolved past the Americans protecting them.
That identity is now the single biggest obstacle to Western survival. And the darkest irony is: we helped build it.
After World War II, Europe wasn’t just economically shattered. Its culture was in ruins. The cities, the universities, the concert halls, the museums. Rubble.
The Marshall Plan rebuilt the economy. But culture wasn’t a priority. Not at first.
Then the Iron Curtain dropped. And suddenly culture became a weapon.
American diplomats, academics, artists & scholars flooded Western Europe. We funded their universities. Supported their orchestras. Rebuilt their museums. Promoted their intellectual life.
Not because European culture needed saving for its own sake.
Because Eastern Europeans were struggling for Maslow’s mist basic needs.
We needed the view from the other side of that Wall to be intoxicating.
So America built Western Europe into a showcase of self-actualization. Art. Philosophy. Cafe culture. Long vacations. Universities where people studied literature instead of surviving.
We were manufacturing jealousy.
And it worked. The Wall came down.
But here’s what no one accounted for.
When you give a society self-actualization on someone else’s tab long enough, they forget it was a gift. They start believing it was organically theirs.
And when they look at the country that funded it all, a country busy building aircraft carriers and semiconductor fabs and shale fields instead of reaching the Maslow’s pinnacle.
An overweight American in a ball cap who can’t tell Monet from Pissarro. Who eats fast food. Who drives a truck. Who builds strip malls instead of piazzas.
And to a culture trained in aesthetics but stripped of strategic awareness, that American looks uncivilized.
So the arrogance takes root. And once a culture decides another is beneath them, they stop listening.
Americans say wars are sometimes necessary: crude.
Oil is the backbone of prosperity: unsophisticated.
Kids build companies in garages that reshape the planet: crass.
Wall Street finances the global economy: vulgar.
Europe has no world-class technology sector. No military capable of strong defense. No energy independence. No AI capacity.
What Europe has is culture. The culture we paid for at the expense of us reaching Maslow’s pinnacle.
For decades that was fine. We funded the museums, protected the sea lanes, and tolerated the sneering because the arrangement worked.
Then Europeans stopped keeping the contempt private. They started saying it to our faces. In their media. In their parliaments. At every international forum. “Americans are stupid.
Americans are violent. Americans are a threat to democracy.”
We could have moved the Louvre to NY. We could have built a Venice here. We could have stolen your best artists, designers, philosophers and more… like your conquering armies did for centuries.
Instead we funded them. And all we asked for in return was to let us visit.
You don’t have the military to defend your borders. You don’t have the technology to compete. You don’t have the energy to heat your homes without begging dictators.
What you have is an 80-year superiority complex FUNDED BY AMERICANS, protected by American soldiers, and built on the false belief that self-actualization is civilization.
It isn’t. Civilization is the ability to sustain itself. By that measure, Europe isn’t a civilization at all. It’s a dependency with better wine.
That’s not a threat. It’s a weather report.
Build a Navy. Or don’t. But stop lecturing the people who made you “better than us”
Our “crudeness” our “stunted liberal education” our “ugly strip malls” are because we sacrificed our culture to support yours.

The problem isn't that a tax on real estate exists.
The problem is how that tax is assessed.
Remember when the democrats floated the idea of net worth tax and everyone with two brain cells to rub together pointed out that taxing unrealized gains is a disaster?
Well, a tax on the assessed value of the home you live in is a tax on unrealized gains.
In fact, it's worse than that. It's not just a tax on unrealized gains. It's a tax on total value.
Taxing unrealized gains on a stock forces a sale, but at least a stock is something you can sell. You live in a house. It's not there solely as a repository for value, an investment vehicle you can sell, pay your "you won too much" tax, and be on your merry way.
It's where you live.
Sure, I get it. We all get it. The boomers want to pay no taxes, ever again. They want young people to pick up the tab for all the government services they use, so they can go on more cruises, before they die and leave everything to a Catholic charity whose primary function is to import more third world barbarians into a country that's no longer their problem, because they don't care what happens to the entire universe one microsecond after they are dead.
They'd sell us all out for an oatmeal-raisin cookie. We all understand this.
But it's not only boomers who pay property taxes. It's anyone who owns a home. And if that's limited to retired people, well, there ain't gonna be a next generation, will there?
Total-value property taxes raise the cost of home ownership, and thus the mean age of first time home buyers.
Why should homes pay more for local government services in an inflated real estate market, or when they cost more?
Pricier homes don't use more fire services. They don't use more roads. They don't use more flood prevention. And they use a hell of a lot less police.
Why are they paying more?
Soak-the-rich property taxes, like EBT spending, Section 8, Medicare, and all this other socialist nonsense, are just one more way for the government to punish success, and hide the fact that we have a huge expensive underclass burden who never have to take the blame for how much they cost all of us, because politicians want to buy their votes.
Taxing people who have stuff, just because they have more stuff, may be an easy way to get money, but it just makes it harder to have stuff.
Taxes on thriving inhibit thriving.
If government, that poor, underfunded group of victims who can only survive by robbing us at gunpoint, needs more money than a flat tax would provide, then let it stop subsidizing the underclass of non-producers, at home and aboard.
Ease the federal tax burden that pays for all that nonsense, and state and local governments can set a per-capita flat tax to pay for services that are consumed per capita, whether the capita in question is a person, or a structure, or a plot of land, whatever.
No nation ever taxed itself into prosperity.
We need to stop flushing money away.

Since CBS News has no f*cking idea what they are talking about and are just spreading misinformation, let me break it down for you.
In the USA, dutiable value is based on your net purchasing, it DOES NOT include any shipping or insurance costs.
Apparel is amongst the highest margin imports, with markups of hundreds of percentage points being typical, garments have always had high base duty rates as a result.
So for easy math, if you are selling $119 swimsuit, you are likely getting that for $20 or less per piece from factory. Your duty is based on that $20 number, NOT your retail cost. Let's say you import a container with $1000 swimsuits, your freight cost is $3000 all in, delivered to warehouse.
Base duty 27%, plus 145% in "Trump" tariffs, total 172%.
Total invoice value from factory is 1000 units x $20 each = $20,000
$20,000 x 1.72 (172%) = $34,400 duties
To find landed cost, let's add that shipping back in, so plus $3000 for all of them, plus your original cost of $20,000 for the product, and you have a total landed cost approximately $57,400 (we will leave off hmf and tmf since they are fractions of a percent).
Your landed net cost per unit is thus $57.40, for a swimsuit you retail for $119 normally. You don't need to raise your retail by 3x, you are still doubling your money even with the tariffs, but since CBS will run cover for you, why not blame Trump, the average person will never know!
So No, Trump didn't make the swimsuit go up to $360, that scummy retailer is fleecing you, and CBS News is helping them do it.

I was in Extinction Rebellion for several years. I produced over 60 videos for them and helped with several protests.
I can tell you directly: It was never about the climate. It was about controlling you.
Specifically, it was about mobilising 3.5% of the population into permanent revolutionary protest in order to trigger a Communist revolution. (Per Trotsky, Sharp, Hallam, Mao)
This was told to me directly by some of the leaders of the organisation. I tried to organise some programs to help businesses lower their carbon footprints without lowering profit margins or impacting the GDP, and I was told in no uncertain terms that *solutions* were counter to the goals of the movement and that I should stop.
It was then that I started to realise their true motives, and understand that perhaps I was being taken for a ride.
I learned that Communist countries have had some of the WORST environmental records in existence. What XR was proposing - degrowth, agitation, "decolonisation", post-capitalism and every other agitprop buzzword - would effectively drop civilisation back to a pre-renewable era and force developing nations into a protracted industrial age, leading to ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE more carbon emissions than the incremental improvements found by market innovations.
Population density is a critical function of renewable energy infrastructure. You don't have a factory. You have a market ecosystem. That's how technology works. It blew my mind that they didn't understand this.
After years of pushing against fossil fuels, they were suddenly vehemently opposed to Elon Musk and his EVs. It was mind boggling to witness.
I realised that Musk had singlehandedly done more to reduce emissions than the entire climate activist movement combined. And it's not close. Mentioning this, I was met with bewilderment and anger.
It was very hard to come away from that experience with much sympathy for the activist left movement. At their best they were devoid of ideas and completely incapable of making meaningful technological or engineering innovations. At their worst, they were actively working against their own stated goals in order to maximise agitation and mobilise discontent toward a destructive revolutionary movement that would ultimately lead to measurably worse outcomes.
Applying Occam's Razor, it became apparent to me that the goal is Communist revolution, and all these random causes - climate, gender relativism, immigration, BLM, defunding police, Islamisation etc etc etc weren't about triumphing over injustices, but about agitating blocs of useful idiots into a perpetual state of protest in order to seize power and control in the name of Marxist Revolution.
I thought they were creators and visionaries. I was wrong.
True change comes from the builders.
Yes there are problems on this earth, but they'll only be solved by you tackling those problems, building useful things and helping to push the species forward.
If you're smart enough to contribute, you belong amongst the builders.
