NEW: According to a letter from the State Dept. to Sen. Markey, seen by @Reuters, the Trump admin. is close to sending for congressional review a nuclear cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia—which won’t require Riyadh to sign the Additional Protocol for intrusive IAEA inspections or adhere to the “gold standard” of no enrichment and reprocessing, to which the UAE committed.
This is a dangerous, further unraveling of decades of U.S. policy against the spread of nuclear weapons technologies. Iran should be the cautionary tale of bending nonproliferation standards in the Middle East, @POTUS @VP @SecRubio @SecretaryWright.
