I started the research for this book in March 2001. It only took 16 years to finish!
I think I need a drink.π
I got to talk about Rwandaβs elections on BBC NewsHour today. I come on at minute 14.

Donald Trump doesnβt know a damn thing about service to his country.
30 years ago today, I heard of the president of Rwandaβs death. Soon reports of violence trickled in. Within a week, it was obvious that a genocide was under way against Rwandaβs Tutsi minority.
Having returned from Rwanda 11 months before, I struggled to get news of friends. It wasnβt until I returned to Rwanda a year later that I learned details of those who survived but lost their families and others killed, sometimes by people I knew.
Hey African studies hive mind, next year Iβm teaching a general seminar in African politics. What books and other readings would you recommend?
Bought a washing machine @homedepot. Delivery yesterday came 8 hours after the window, w/o explanation. The drivers dropped off but didn't install it, because they didn't have the hoses. We called this morning to reschedule, which won't happen until THURSDAY! Terrible service!
I have a few invite codes for Blue sky if anyone wants one. It's a friendly place but needs more folks. Preference for scholars from Africa.
For those interested in Northern Ireland, BU is hosting a big conference on the anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement, with 20 activists from NI participating. Today through Thursday

Happy to celebrate the 70th anniversary of @BUAfricaStudies with keynote by Ugandan climate activist Vanessa Nakate. She offers a powerful condemnation of the systems that make Africa suffer disproportionately from climate crisis.
In conversation with BU students Victoria Bien-AimΓ© and Seynedhee Avenue, Nakate calls for just transition. Africa will supply many of the minerals needed for energy infrastructure but must not be exploited again as it has been in the fossil fuel industry.
It's like Ramaswamy is trying to prove CRT correct. He fits Derek Bell's 4th rule of racial standing so well as he seeks super standing status among whites (just replace "black" with "brown" in the text).

Iβm noticing that when I click a link to an article in the Boston Globe or Washington Post (the papers to which I have a subscript) in the app previously known as Twitter, I now have to sign in every time. This app keeps getting worse and worse.
This article brought back memories of when I worked at a Chinese restaurant during grad school. Peking ducks were delivered on Mondays, so that night family dinner was always a stir fry of the necks and heads. Weβd give grandma the duck heads to chew on.

Even for the brilliant Randy Rainbow, this mash up of Donβt Arraign On His Parade and Heβs So Indicted is exceptionally good.
