Just trying to raise good humans with God, common sense, enough sleep, and whatever’s left in the pantry. Real food, real talk... a proudly American homeschool.

Almost everyone CAN homeschool. Whether or not you SHOULD is between you and God but the barriers are smaller than they feel.
Maybe hormones but I was not prepared for how I would feel seeing the empty space in our bedroom after moving Mr. 3’s train bed upstairs to his room.
Maybe for whatever reason they gotta get up at 5:30 or 6; my point is just make sure you give enough time on one end or the other.
But also, if waking at 6:30 is against our biology, so should staying up all night and sleeping til 2pm. My teen isn’t calling that evil either 🙃
It’s okay to teach your kids routine and it’s okay to choose what works best for your family.

We are literally built to either wake with the sun or sleep later for night owls. Forcing kids to get up that early is simply evil and goes against our very biology.
He said it so I don’t have to.
I would take more seriously arguments about schools needing to start later if I wasn’t aware of all the ways parents sabotage their kids’ sleeping habits.
From smartphones to video games to tv in rooms to not enforcing bed time—there are myriad ways that parents work against their children being well rested and none of them will be fixed by changing start time to an hour later.
One thing they don’t tell you: When you get up is relative.
Count backwards from leave time by how long it takes to be ready, then by number of hours they’d sleep if uninterrupted on the weekends and add 30m to wind down. That’s the new bedtime 🤫
Try that and adjust.
Woke up from nap on his own, came strutting in the kitchen:
“Good morning mama!!”
Prayers for this Mama’s Boy as he transitions to being a big brother. I’m confident he’ll be great but also sure it’ll be a little hard on his sensitive heart. ♥️
Blessed with Mr. 3 being such a good guy.
Yesterday didn’t want to nap. Negotiated by bringing me his timer and said “how about in 5 minutes?”
Time went off 5m later:
“Okay mama you gotta come tuck me in.”
Highly recommend using a visual timer for a heads up on your littles.
I don’t really consider my family to be picky eaters but working around no tomato-based, no beans, and no Alfredo/cream sauce, really makes prepping casseroles a little bit of a project. Add in that one doesn’t love cheese.
Favorite budget and freezer friendly casseroles?
This baby is gonna be here any second and I have so much to do that I don’t feel like doing. Better organize the junk drawer!
Moving Mr. 3 to his big boy bedroom this weekend and kicking it off with a slumber party. Maybe that’ll get me moving 😂
I’m a big fan of judging performance against their own potential vs. peers.
Why know 7x8 when you can scratch 16+16+16+8 in the margins for all eternity?
Kindle in the purse for when I’m not sure if I’ll need to kill time. Audiobooks in the car. Physical any other time unless I’m proofing/editing and don’t want to put paper in the printer.
I actually signed for a 2mo free trial of ABC Mouse today and it took all of 3m for me to decide I’m ready to cancel.
Might be for some parents, but we’re going full out novels and pencil+paper
We’ve skipped church too many times in a row so husband went to Bible study while I stayed home with 2 sick kids and a teen with plans.
The ladies were asking about me and he said I’m “great but very sleepy” and I can’t even protest bc that’s how sleepy I’ve been.
You’d be surprised how much the grade labels matter to kids. One of ours struggled with facts and we didn’t realize until homeschooling for 4th. Gathered some easy materials to start multiplication from scratch and while I wasn’t concerned it said 2nd-3rd, that’s all she saw.

I missed quite a few of them myself. Learned the 8s while homeschooling my daughter and it was a nice way to humble myself so she didn’t feel so bad learning them late and using materials labeled 1-2y behind 😬
There are reasons you don’t put a husky in a harness.
