Two hits coming out this weekend. Ice Cream Man is a social satire disguised as a B grade gory slasher à la the third act of Weapons (but better). One Night Only is a charming strange romantic comedy that feels like a combination of Before Sunrise, The Purge, and After Hours.

I feel stupid now. The Odyssey is a masterpiece. Nolan could retire on this and be satisfied that I at least now stand convinced that he’s one of our great artists. When something of such unbridled conviction is executed with such mastery, the petty gripes of our culture war misgivings about relatively meaningless cast choices completely fade away. I promised I wouldn’t have a take and I don’t. It was just a really beautiful film.

Emily Wilson is right about Nolan's "re-interperetation" of Zeus' Law (Xenia). The Trojan Horse is not in violation of Xenia. The Achaeans were at war with the Trojans for a decade BECAUSE of Paris' violation of Xenia and capturing Helen. They have no obligation for being "good guests" in Troy at that point. This is Nolan's "turn the other cheek" version of Xenia that is a Christianizing re-interperetation of Xenia & Hospitality. ign.com/articles/emily-wilso…

You’re now considered a knuckle dragging retard for not buying the worst quality ground beef you can find with as much fat as they are legally allowed to add before it isn’t even considered beef anymore. $44.4 for 7lbs of beef and 3lbs of fat
It's remarkable how many people replied to this saying you can't get ground beef for $4.44/lb Why would you be so publicly stupid and confident without spending 30 seconds checking?

Nolan has taken criticism lately, including from me, so let me say: what he does with the face that launched a thousand ships is a powerful commentary on the destruction of war. Improves on Homer.

Is Nolan’s film based on Wilson’s translation or not? I’m trying to keep up with the latest discourse

Acclamation and rehabilitation of Emily Wilson’s review of Nolan movie odd, but indicative of continued incoherence of cultural discourse here. Wilson is clearly a new leftist progressive, her qualms with movie are that it’s an American family man (aka conservative) narrative.
