not reading so you won’t be influenced by others’ thoughts/styles is so silly because i mean, if you don’t read (everything you can!) you won’t develop thoughts/a style worth reading and, even sadder, you’re missing out on the very long, very weird conversation that literature is

Despite the fines and mounting pressure, Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair continues to honour Palestinian children killed in Gaza. This time, it’s Lana, 12, and Bana, 8, who were killed alongside their family in an Israeli attack earlier this month.

The remains of a little baby are inside this bag. His formula bottle. And what could be recovered of his tiny bones. Baby Obaida was among the 105 Palestinians whose remains were finally recovered from beneath the rubble of the Al-Taj residential complex, nearly three years after an Israeli strike destroyed it in October 2023. Families had waited all this time simply for the chance to bury their loved ones. Obaida was killed alongside his mother, Doaa Sharaf, a journalist. A mother. A baby. And more than one hundred other human beings - each one a life, a story, a family left carrying an unimaginable loss. On October 1, The Sameer Project was there as Gaza gathered to pay its respects, honor the martyrs, and finally lay them to rest. Nearly three years later, a mother and her baby are being buried as bones and belongings recovered from rubble. When will the world stop this?

I wanted to screenshot this for those historians of AI and technology in the future. The day after OpenAI's mathplosion, it was nowhere to be found on the front page of the New York Times.
