Denmark is raising its retirement age to 70. French election candidates pledge to reducing it to 60 or 62. Denmark's debt to GDP ratio is 27%; France's is 117%. You reap what you sow. cnn.com/2025/05/23/business/…

The biggest single factor that has held this country back isn’t Brexit. It’s the constant arguing about Brexit. It has kneecapped us for a decade. Losers consent matters. If the country just pulled together we really could thrive but so many simply won’t. They see the EU through rose tinted glasses and never consider the flip side. Rather than working together we all push against each other resulting in our politicians looking back to the past as opposed to forging our future. We simply do not have to be in the EU to grow the economy - we really don’t. The biggest lie of all is that the EU wants the UK to thrive. They don’t. They want us back to pay their bills, clip our wings, keep us under their regulatory thumb and to get cheap food on their tables.

Q: Do you support Britain rejoining the EU? Czech PM Andrej Babiš: Yes, of course. We need more money.

🚨BREAKING🚨 New polling conducted for City AM, published in the last hour, shows that two thirds of Brits would OPPOSE rejoining the EU if it meant a commitment to adopt the Euro at any point in the future. Which it would. This is terminal for the Rejoin campaign. Terminal.

There its is: "In return, EU negotiators have insisted that Britain signs up to European Court of Justice oversight of the system and pays an annual fee". Every move in the PM's so-called reset involves surrendering more power to the EU and paying more money into its coffers.
Andy Burnham wants to seal a pact with Brussels to restore access to the bloc’s databases of asylum seekers and criminals In return, EU negotiators have insisted that Britain signs up to European Court of Justice oversight of the system and pays an annual fee, sources told The Telegraph ⤵️ telegraph.co.uk/politics/202…

A woman on #bbcqt had a pop at Stephen Kinnock’s family for doing well out of the EU. He was rather aggressive and contemptuous in response but she dealt well with his failed “gotcha” at the end. Why on Earth are Labour trying to dredge up Brexit bitterness all over again?

So Burnham is preparing to surrender the UK to the authority of the European Court of Justice (ECJ). The ECJ is a tool of the EU and it exists for the sole purpose of securing, protecting & promoting the interests of the ‘European Project’. Make no mistake this would be seen by the EU and across the world as an act of submission, an act of national weakness. You cannot be a sovereign nation if you are supplicant to a foreign court. The desire of 17.4 million Britons to be free of the EU was clear and for Burnham, a political chancer who was elected as an MP on the lie that he would not undermine Brexit, to turn us into a subservient state would be an affront to democracy. This isn’t leadership, it’s treachery.

Ten years after we voted to take back control, the plan is to pay Brussels an annual fee for database access and let EU judges have the final say. You genuinely couldn't make it up. telegraph.co.uk/politics/202…

Ironic that the City itself doesn't want to realign with the EU, despite what Goldman Sachs is claiming about the economic benefits... 🤔
Some good pro-Brexit points here from the City, eg. how the financial services sector has gained from smarter regulation... 👍 #brexitbenefits

So which one is it? Is Brexit holding us back, or is Britain thriving outside the EU? If the UK is performing strongly, why reopen the most divisive political debate of the last decade? What exactly would rejoining achieve that we cannot deliver ourselves?
The IMF has upgraded UK growth forecasts. They have urged the government to stay the course. The UK has been one of the fastest growing economies in the G7. Labour is delivering for the British people. theguardian.com/business/202…

Interesting use of Brexit freedoms and independent trade policy.
EXCL: The business secretary has hit back at European demands for British tariffs on Chinese imports, saying the government will not change its trade rules because of pressure from Brussels. Jonathan Reynolds warned the government would not bow to calls from other countries for the UK to hit Chinese vehicles with import taxes, despite political pressure to align with EU in exchange for deeper future economic ties.
